Itâs world book day, and we LOVE books! While there are so many books that relate to yoga and practice and meditation, here are a few that we turn to again and again.
The Eight Limbs of Yoga. Itâs a classic that breaks down the practice of yoga into the eight main guideposts of what the practice truly is. Spoiler alert: itâs more than just asana, or poses!
Breath by Breath. This book dives deep into meditation and what insight meditation is. Itâs a tangible way to start thinking about meditation if youâre intimidated.
Om Chanting and Meditation. If youâve ever wondered about the meaning of Om and why itâs often used in yoga, this book shares what this essential sound is all about. It includes some really wonderful meditation practices to get you familiar with the idea and sounds of this universal vibration.
Your Body Your Yoga. Our bodies are all shaped differently, but we often expect our physical practice to look the same as âeveryone elseâsâ and this book breaks down why thatâs just not the reality from an anatomical standpoint. For instance, the length of your shins and arms will often determine whether or not you can step your foot through from downward dog into a low lunge, not your physical capability.
How to be an Antiracist by . Yoga is a living practice, and though this book probably isnât on many yoga TBR lists, we think itâs critical for not just âlove and lightâ-ing your way through the world, but really changing from within to change the world around you.
The Teacherâs Guide to Accessible Yoga by . The newest must read on our list for sure! There are so many dog eared pages in this book, so many notes and questions and thoughts. There are many wonderful things about this book, including thoughts from many seasoned yoga teachers as well as reflection questions throughout each chapter. It is a founding work of our mission here at Unity Yoga, so we obviously had to include it!
What are some of your favorite books, yoga or not?
