Oh what fun it is!
The crew at our Partner, Hudson Crossing Park, Schuylerville, NY is ready for more inclusive fun this winter with the debut of the Kettler sled!
Check out their whole list of things they have been doing to create more inclusive experience at the park on their Accessibility Tab!
Thanks to the NYS Canal Corporation On the Canals program, we’re excited to share that Hudson Crossing Park now has an adaptive sled to help people with mobility challenges fully participate in our Winter on the Canals programs! ❄️
For the first time ever, participants with mobility challenges can join us on a winter hike all the way to Eagle Point during our Fire & Ice Hikes, seamlessly take part alongside other kids during Sledding & S’mores On the Canals, and enjoy our Tracks & Treats excursion without barriers.
The adaptive sled can be reserved during program registration, which opens two weeks before each excursion. We’re proud to keep expanding access so everyone can experience the magic of winter on the canals. 💙
As always, thank you to Rochester Accessible Adventures for your guidance!
Image: Kate, wearing a black jacket and red hat, stands on the back of the sled, while Julie, wearing a red flannel jacket and hat sits in the sled. The sled is green and has seat belts at the feet, knees, and waste, and has a head rest. It also has handles to push the sled, and a rope to pull the sled.

Not often thought about...but Nocs Provisions knows people have different ways of seeing. And monoculars are often the trick for many with a variety of disabilities! Sometimes trying to focus two lenses so you can see the object just doesn't work!
Makes a great gift!
And then, get outside and join our partners who'd love to take you on inclusive and *free* excursions!

Our Community Health Inclusion (CHI) initiatives spread the power and joy of inclusive recreation throughout communities. RAA uses a three-pronged approach to training recreation businesses to operate inclusively whenever their doors are open!! With this new model of true inclusion, it means families and friends can jump in and participate in REAL TIME -- that is, when they want to, with people they want to participate with, and doing things they want to be doing -- ALL WHILE KNOWING their needs will be met!
Our CHI partners include:
Erie Canal Boat Company in Fairport NY and Lockport, NY-- kayak and cycle rentals
Pickled Power -- Rochester NY -- pickleball instruction by Bob Stokes
Victor Parks and Recreation -- Victor NY -- a dynamic community recreation department
Healthy Highway -- a whole-life approach to sustainable wellness by Wendy Cooper
Genesee Valley Park Sports Complex -- training staff to provide inclusive programming
School 29 - Creating an Inclusion Team to address social inclusion throughout the school
Irondequoit Recreation -- starting the process of Inclusion throughout their department
More CHI partners are coming each year! Stay tuned as all of these wonderful entities begin thinking AND OPERATING inclusively so that all members of our community can participate!
Rochester Accessible Adventures works throughout the community (local, regional, and statewide) to bring true accessibility and social inclusion in recreation.
