Ruth Dickson is celebrating an incredible 108 years of life today—

A milestone filled with resilience, humor, and a lifetime of memories.

Born and raised in Rising City, Nebraska, Ruth grew up on a farm with her parents, Vera and Edward, and her three brothers. She fondly recalls those early days—full of hard work, shared routines, and sibling bonds. With a laugh, she would say her brothers could be a nuisance at times, but the closeness they shared made those years truly special.

Life on the farm shaped Ruth’s character. Each day began with feeding the animals, only to wake up and do it all over again the next morning. She attended a small country school and, when asked about college, her response was simple and full of wisdom: “No college, just experience.”

Though she never owned a car of her own, Ruth remembers driving her father’s black Dodge with side curtains, delighting in the feeling of the open road as dirt flew behind her. It was a small freedom she clearly cherished.

Ruth met her late husband, Lowell, on the front steps of her home—a humble beginning to a life they would build together. She married her farmer and together they raised two beautiful children, creating a legacy that now includes many grandchildren and beyond.

Today, Ruth enjoys life at Madonna Towers with her signature wit and bright smile. When asked what she likes most, she replied, “I don’t do laundry, I don’t cook, I don’t clean—I can just be me.”

Her life advice reflects the strength she has carried through more than a century: “I was born at the end of World War I, lived through World War II—if I did that, then anyone can do anything.”

Ruth’s story is a beautiful reminder of perseverance, simplicity, and finding joy in every season of life.
