A Quieter Place :: Healing Our World Through Relationship Part One It’s been a long time since I have been focused on writing this way. The election has brought many changes into my life, as well as everyone else’s, however. And I feel the need to communicate something that seems very important to share.
I have always had good feeling about Ben and Jerry...and not just their yummy ice cream:). Thank you guys! This is an excellent, informative look at what surrounds us "white folks" and our "black" brothers and sisters systemically...
7 Ways We Know Systemic Racism is Real Yes, systemic racism is real. And people of color – African Americans, Latinos, Asians, and other minorities – face it every day. We still have a lot of work to do, America. The good news: by speaking up about it, you can be part of the solution.
Being inspired by the vision of Pachamama has lead me to read a book called Active Hope:How to Face the Mess We're in without Going Crazy by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone. Anyone interested in a book study group with me? I've put the invite on my website and would love to hear if the idea feels inviting to any of my friends!
I've been very excited to learn about the Pachamama Alliance, an international group that is working to help each of to make a profound inquiry into a bold vision: to bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, and socially just human presence on Earth. I will be going to a Symposium designed for that purpose on December 7th and many others can join us. Registration is online at pachamama.org.
Here's a to a 7 minute video about the Symposium if you are interested!

I put up a new page for Space Rental (listed on What We Offer) on the website on Thursday. I feel satisfied that what is being offered teachers and facilitators is inline with my what heart values including respect, trust and care for all concerned...I am looking forward to sharing this place with more and more like-minded people.
I've tried something "techy" and new. A Quieter Place now has a mobile phone presence. It's m.aquieterplace.com. Hopefully, more people will find us and our schedule of classes, mp3s, and articles now that so many of us are using iphones and the like.
I am curious to see what happens.
At this very moment there is a Reiki workshop taking place in the A Quieter Place's meditation space in my home. Yay! I am so pleased to be sitting on my front porch listening, hearing birds, enjoying the morning glories and moon flowers climbing their makeshift trellis, feeling the quiet surrounding it all, knowing that the three people inside are being supported in their learning by the natural beauty that imbues their experience here.
Big changes are happening at A Quieter Place. Check out the website, the blog, and the calendar. Please know that all are welcome to join us for our new weekly free meditation and teaching sessions beginning this week.

Along with the sweet smells, bright colors, and bird song of spring, rebirth is happening at A Quieter Place. This month there will a Blessing Ceremony, inviting prayers from friends for the benefit of all who come to work and play at A Quieter Place. We also welcome Judith Lardner back for another insightful and experiential half day class in Mindful Communication called Sticks and Stones.
Most new and exciting of all, there is a new schedule up on the Calendar, much simpler than last month’s, and hopefully easier to step into for anyone who is interested in joining us for free morning or evening sittings with talks about awareness (mindfulness too) in daily life.

Why the big changes in our meditation and fee format?
I had originally set my sights high for community involvement in this project I am directing. Habitually seeing all the delightful possibilities of my ventures (ah, dreams!), has been an interesting journey for me…with all the natural disappointments that come with dreaming bigger than circumstance allow. With awareness and curiosity about what’s real, eventually I have always found acceptance and surrender to what’s more real, as life has unfolded slower, much slower than my sweet dreams could have possibly foretold.
This time around, A Quieter Place is teaching me that it is time to offer fewer, more easily digestible commitments from people who want to grow in awareness and also fit their learning experiences into their daily lives in an uncomplicated way. Keeping the weekly meditation gatherings free may also allow people with financial difficulties more opportunities to benefit from our offerings in that way. (All of our workshops and classes allow some flexibility with different scholarships and/or work exchange opportunities according to the teacher’s preferences.)
I am excited about the changes, curious whether they will actually be more inviting, whether more people may come and benefit from what we offer, and also continuing to hold hope about all this tenderly, as the changes go “live” and the word gets out to all who may benefit.
Simplifying things has also been a part of the journey from a directly personal point of view in the middle of all this change. Seeing the calendar has even been a bit overwhelming for me, let alone the challenge of getting it published. Switching to fewer offerings, eliminating the complexity of membership, trusting that all is and will be well, makes me feel so much lighter, more relaxed, and more open to the fun of it than I felt before. Even changing the calendar for June and July was a lark compared to filling in all the information that went into February, March, April, and May’s classes. I am reminded again, how the river flows so much easier when there is willingness, awareness, and reality is being accepted.
Still if you had told me last week, that this big change was coming, I wouldn’t have believed it because I was still resisting reality…still holding onto the dream of more, now! I spoke with a friend yesterday who had a new-to-me, insightful perspective about how having all those offerings may be diffusing what we offer at A Quieter Place. Something felt so right about that insight, I came home and began changing the information on the website. And today, I am writing this blog to let others know about the changes and my journey with them. It’s all part of makes A Quieter Place what it is; a place of learning about what works, holding ourselves tenderly as we travel along the river of life with its quiet, occasionally still passages, wild rapids, and swirling eddy’s, on an adventure that doesn’t ever end :).
Endless blessings, peace, and deep healing,
Padme
