🎙️🎙️March 10th is National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. According to the EtE Dashboard; In 2024, 22% (551) of new HIV diagnoses in NYS were among women. Despite making up a significant portion of new diagnoses, women remain underrepresented in the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).Only 8% of PrEP users in NYS are women, compared to 92% for men. These figures emphasize the need to increase awareness, education, and access to PrEP for women, particularly those at higher risk of HIV exposure. , , , , , , ,

🎙️🎙️Treatment as Prevention (TaP) is an effective away to reduce the spread of HIV. If a person who is HIV+ remains undetectable(no virus is found in a sample of blood) for six consecutive months, it has been medically proven that the HIV+ person can not pass the virus to their sexual partner. U=U(Undetectable=Untransmittable). Early detection of HIV leads to better outcomes. Know your status. Get tested today. , , , , , , , ,

About 35.5 million US adults are estimated to have CKD, and most are undiagnosed. 🎙️🎙️According to the New York State Department of Health in 2024 42% of new HIV diagnosis were African Americans. Only 12% of individuals on PrEP were African American. In Hispanics, 36% of new HIV diagnosis were Hispanic, but only 10% of individuals on PrEP were Hispanic. Clearly the message of taking PrEP is not resonating in communities of color. We must find a way to reach the communities most impacted by new HIV diagnoses.
