I am filled with so much gratitude today. Overcome with joy that all the work I keep putting in - trying to create expansion in my life... is starting to manifest in front of my very eyes.

It is amazing what you can make happen if you change your thought process and just keep doing. Results seem distant, even nonexistent sometimes, but hard work and time shorten that distance. Time by itself will create distance on its own...but when you add hard work, you give your distance a direction... without it - you have little say in where you end up.

Do you find meditation impossible? Great news; you might be meditating without even knowing.
I’ve read about how we are starting to remove the misconception that society has built around meditation. It seems we are breaking the mold and changing how we as a people view meditation. Gone are the days where you believe you must sit and stare at a wall or create some sort of still vortex in your mind free from thought to meditate.

I personally struggled with the ability to still my mind until I realized - meditating manifests in many many different forms. It was like a lightbulb went on and I realized the hours I got lost in painting or working on art, the yoga session I attend, the simple act of showering were all forms of active meditation.

Let’s talk about the one that most of us do; showering. When we shower we go through the same motions. The routine, where we move as we reach for things and the timing of the activities allow us to drift into auto pilot. The relaxing effect of water running over us, washing away everything we do not need clinging to us.

As we use muscle memory to move through our actions it lets our mind still without even realizing it. Every time the mind wanders or goes into a thought rut the routine and the water pull us back. We move to the next step and knowingly or not the water helps us wash away a ton the thought away with the water. THIS is a form of meditation!!!

When this concept clicked for me, it truly expanded my ability to appreciate these moments of stillness. I have gained a healthy gratitude for the way certain activities in my life allow me to clear space and find moments of peace.

Where do you find moments of stillness? Take note of what gives you space to clear your mind and you will find that you indeed can meditate successfully!

The 1 minute imagination challenge. Do you use your imagination everyday? You should - try this.

Imagination dims with age. I cannot think of any specific cause to tie it to; essentially LIFE happens. The general grind of day to day living, the traumatic stuff that happens to us over the years, the constant go. All elements combined we begin to lose touch with a tool that we always have available to us.

You do not have to be a child or an immature adult to use your imagination. Albert Einstein stated it was his most valuable tool. Of course not all of us will be able to use quite like Albert did, but we can certainly test it out and feel the impact!

1 minute imagination Challenge: Try doing the following imagination exercise over the next week.

STEP 1: Look in the mirror and really take note of your eye color(s). NOT when you are rushing out the door (I try to do this when brushing my teeth before bed.) REALLY look.

STEP 2: Close your eyes and focus your attention to the space between your eyebrows (your 3rd eye chakra.) For the next 15-20 seconds (eyes closed) bring to mind anything in the world that reminds you of your eye color(s). Sky is the limit: a vegetable, a place, a fabric, a car, a vase, a chair, an animal, a flower, a shirt, etc.

Imagine the details of what came to mind as vividly as you can. Notice (don’t stay with) whatever feelings naturally arise as you scan it with your mind’s eye. What does is taste like, smell like, feel like, do you like, love it, hate it?

STEP 3: Open your eyes - look at the color while calling whatever you thought of to mind once more. Done!!! Challenge yourself to think of something different each time you do it.

This exercise will stretch your mind’s eye and help it expand. When we actively use and work this area in our energetic body it becomes more open and balanced. It governs our imagination, our intuition, our perception of the world, our ability to dream big, and most importantly our ability to see beyond just face value.

Opportunity vs. Stop-ortunity… Which do you practice?

Opportunity knocks all the time. Whether or not we admit it, most of us sit there praying it will go away. The justification process we use to feel better about not answering this call, is something I like to call a “STOP-ortunity”. It is a practice we fall victim to more than we realize.

Big or small, an opportunity is a chance. Stop-ortunity is what tells you to not take that chance.

There are an infinite number of small opportunities; they pop up all the time. That chance you had to do laundry, but instead justified watching the 15th episode in a row of a show. You most likely had a reason…maybe something like, “this is my time and I can relax; I never binge shows”. The moment we choose not to take action (no matter the reason), is the moment we stop the opportunity… so how do we fix this?

I am not suggesting that you must spring to action each time opportunity arises. Not even a little. My hope is for you to become cognizant of stop-ortunity and more importantly why you chose it instead of the alternative. Being mindful that stop-ortunity is a choice, and mindful of why we made that choice, will quickly bring to light when you are stopping yourself from taking positive action.

It may not seem to matter when it comes to little opportunities, but if we continue to choose stop-ortunity and are oblivious to it...we increase our likelihood of choosing it when the big opportunities come our way. Big opportunities are rare and you want to be prepared to see the opportunity when they arise and not let ANYTHING stop you from embracing it. If you are so used to choosing stop-ortunity, you may find yourself looking back saying “I should have done this…. Or why did I not do that!?!”

Do not set yourself up to spend the rest of your life looking back - remorseful about choosing whatever stop-ortunity you felt was easier at the time.

Stop! Don’t flush your resolutions yet... Reframe & Reclaim. This simple tool can change your resolution game in 2019.

Most of us take the fresh slate that is a new year, and load it with a heaping pile of self-expectation... a/k/a the New Year’s resolution. So let’s talk about how to increase our odds of success by simply changing how we phrase them.

CHALLENGE: Whatever resolution(s) are on your list this year... challenge yourself to reframe them. Instead of “this year I am going to quit smoking” Try: “I am excited to be a nonsmoker by this time next year.” Rather than, “this year I will go to the gym more” Say: “I am proud I have chosen to prioritize my health; I will use the resources available to me with gratitude as often as possible this year”

The beauty of this reframing process is that it goes beyond just stating our goal. In adding an element of visualization, we are forced to imagine the end result. GET IT!
