Last Friday, the NextGen in Surgery high school interns graduated after a six-week program. The students presented on their research topics through academic-style posters and also created personal collage-style posters about their experience being a part of the program. 🌟

Students were joined by friends, family, and colleagues to celebrate their accomplishments. Additionally, Rochester Mayor Malik Evans addressed the students, honoring their commitment to the health and wellbeing of the Rochester community.

Congratulations to the graduates on their successes this summer! We're proud to have them as participants in our Teen Health & Success Partnership program and can't wait to see what's next in their journeys!

Earlier this week, young scholars in the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) NextGen in Surgery internship participated in a white coat fashion show. They each designed and decorated their white coats to represent their interests and goals for the future. 🩺🎨

During the internship, area high schoolers interested in pursuing a career in medicine shadow surgeons at the URMC and gain hands-on experience, earn life-saving certifications, and explore pathways.

These students are also enrolled in our Teen Health & Success Partnership program, helping them find employment opportunities at the University of Rochester and providing hiring and employment assistance to support their long-term career success.

Our Story

Making Rochester a Healthier Community Imagine living in one of the healthiest communities in the world. This is the ambitious goal of The Center for Community Health & Prevention. We are at the heart of a community-wide transformation to make Rochester a healthier place to live, learn, work and play. Our mission:To join forces with the community to eliminate health inequalities and improve health through research, education and service. The Center for Community Health & Prevention was established by the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) to develop and expand academic-community health partnerships dedicated to improving the health of our community. It represents a new model of institutional commitment to community health that focuses on prevention. In a pivotal “match making” role, the Center connects URMC faculty, students and staff with community partners. Our shared goals are to increase community services and community-based research to improve health one person, one program, and one policy at a time. Today, community health is formally recognized as the fourth mission of the medical center, alongside research, education and service.
