Health, Habits & Resolutions
Starting small with health goals is the key to long-term success. When it comes to setting goals for 2025, Registered Dietitian April Ho shares the importance of starting small with habits and avoiding the "all-or-nothing" mindset.
Rather than aiming for drastic changes that can feel overwhelming, begin with manageable steps that fit into your routine. This allows you to build momentum and create lasting habits without the pressure of perfection.
Happy Holidays
Many thanks for joining and supporting us in promoting a healthier and more equitable community.
We wish you all the best this holiday season and in the new year!

Intermittent Fasting, Heart Health and Nutrition Takeaways
The holiday season is a joyous time for so many, but for many of those trying to lose weight or attain health goals, it can be a challenge. Some rely on intermittent fasting as a strategy to improve health.
Registered Dietitian Jill Chodak shares her nutritional insights on this diet trend and key takeaways to consider in the process.
Prostate Cancer Screening & Prevention
Darrell Vickers, prostate cancer survivor and peer educator at our Center, and Bettina Broughton, RN, acute care nurse practitioner at the Center For Urology, speak to the importance of prostate cancer screening and prevention, especially among Black men.
In NYS, Black men are one and a half times more likely to get prostate cancer and almost twice as likely to die of the disease compared to white men. The American Cancer Society recommends that men at average risk begin discussing screening at age 50, and men at high risk begin at age 45.
Darrell and Bettina presented at a cancer prevention event earlier this fall at Abraham Lincoln School No. 22. We were proud to partner with Jordan Health, Wilmot Cancer Institute, Rochester Regional Health and the Center For Urology for this community-focused event.

This veggie-packed dish is not only delicious, but can feed a family of four for around $10!

Students reflected on being a part of the board for the past year and their hopes for its impact on our community.
University of Rochester researchers can meet with board members to get a local youth perspective on their existing research projects and for help identifying future research needs aimed at improving adolescent health.
