Emotionally safety is the cornerstone of a healthy relationship. If you can’t talk about how you feel with your partner it makes conflict resolution almost impossible. Being consistently emotionally invalidated shuts people down over time. If you’re not in an emotionally safe relationship, what are you and your partner doing to address that issue?

Putting all of your emotional needs onto one person and expecting them to fulfill them doesn’t work. We all need external support systems and to manage our expectations of what our partner can provide for us. It takes the pressure off of the relationship and allows us to see our partners in a realistic way.

Waiting for someone to end a relationship can be drawn out and painful. Don’t just rely on words. Take the behavioral cues just as seriously.

The first cycle is the natural response to the current chronic uncertainty we all face. The second cycle takes work and awareness to prioritize emotional self-care. Self-care comes in many different forms. Exercise, meditation, taking time to be alone, and therapy can help us re-center. Thanks for sharing

“Right now, in addition to the tragic losses of life and health and jobs are the losses experienced by people of all ages: missed graduations and proms, canceled sports seasons and performances, postponed weddings and vacations, separation from family and friends when we need them most. We have also lost the predictability that we take for granted in daily life: that there will be eggs and toilet paper on supermarket shelves, that we can safely touch a door k**b with our bare hands, that we can get a haircut and our teeth cleaned or spend a Saturday afternoon at the movies.”

In addition to the tragic losses of life and health and jobs, we are grieving the losses of weddings, sports and the ability to buy eggs or get a haircut.

I read this poem by Wendell Berry when I am feeling scared and anxious and things feel out of my control. It feels appropriate for the current atmosphere we are living right now. I trust in people’s goodness, their ingenuity, and compassion when times are difficult. Fear is not the answer. This too shall pass.
