Mary Ellen McGovern Carson

Mary Ellen McGovern-Carson died unexpectedly at the age of 78 in early March, just shy of her 79th birthday. She was the youngest of the late James L. McGovern and Helen E. (nee MacSweeney). She is survived by her brother James J. McGovern (Kathy), sister Sara McGovern Everett, loving son Sean D. Carson, daughter Heather Carson-Wake, “son from another mother”, Erik, her cherished grandson Jackson, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and adored extended family and friends.

Mary Ellen was raised in a devout Irish Catholic family. Being a spiritual person, she rediscovered a great comfort in attending Mass. Mary Ellen was a strong, resilient, sharp-witted woman who instilled those qualities in her children. She did things her way and lived by it without complaint. She was renowned for her amazing cooking, speaking her mind, telling it as she saw it, loving four letter words, but loving her children, son-in-law, grandchild and friends more. She was a loyal friend whom you would want in your corner and was always up for a party.

She truly loved cooking, some might say she was an epicurean both with her own cooking and when enjoying great food and drink. Her palate was beyond refined and she could detect even the most minute spice used in a recipe. Those lucky enough to have enjoyed her fine cooking or baking are just that, lucky enough. Some of her recipes can be found floating in kitchens belonging to many of her family and friends. She found pure enjoyment in pleasing those she adored through their stomachs.

Mary Ellen loved nature, especially camping in Alleghany, Adirondacks, and Algonquin, and going on trips to Daytona, Ocean City, Broadkill and Dewey Beaches with family and dear friends. Most recently, she found pure delight in watching her grandson grow and hummingbirds’ flutter. She loved passionately and was deeply loved by many. Mary Ellen will be sorely missed yet will continue to live in our hearts and cherished memories.

In lieu of flowers, and because of her love of her four-legged pups, Miles and Seamus, donations can be made in her name to Lollypop Farm, of Rochester, NY.

Gerald C. Rhodes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald C. Rhodes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on March 17, 2025, at the age of 64. Gerald was born on November 29, 1960, in Gloversville, New York, to his loving parents, Elaine Wilder and Gerald VanNostrand. He is now reunited in peace with his mother Elaine and his sister Donna, who preceded him in death.

Gerald spent his formative years in the charming town of Gloversville before eventually making his home in Rochester, NY. He devoted 25 years of his life to his career at Frank’s Auto Care, where his hardworking nature and commitment to excellence shone brightly. His colleagues admired him for his work ethic and his kind, approachable demeanor, which made him a favorite among customers and co-workers alike.

A man of many interests, Gerald found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was passionate about fishing and loved spending long, relaxing days at the beach with a cold beverage in hand. In his spare time, he enjoyed building model cars, a hobby that allowed him to express his creativity and attention to detail. His love for music was evident, as he was often found listening to live music or his collection of tunes . The man with the outgoing personality brought joy and laughter to gatherings, earning him the title of "life of the party."

Gerald’s warmth and friendliness extended far beyond his immediate family. He was a loving husband to Marie Rhodes (Mack), with whom he shared 44 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Gerald was a devoted father to his three daughters, Sativa (Robert) Costello, Denise (Shawn) Milazzo, and Danielle (Cody) Anderson. His pride and joy were his six grandchildren: Sanya, Robert Jr., Hailey, Brayden, Mason, and the newest addition, Baby Anderson. Each of them brought a sparkle to his eye and warmth to his heart.

Gerald is also survived by his father Gerald, many siblings, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will remember him for his honesty, sense of humor, and the ability to make everyone feel special. He had a remarkable gift of connection, and his friendly, outgoing nature made him a beloved figure in the lives of many.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Gerald's memory and celebrate the remarkable life he lived. While his physical presence will be missed, his legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

As we say goodbye to Gerald C. Rhodes, we remember a man whose life was a testament to goodwill and happiness. He will continue to live on in the stories we share, the music we listen to, and the love that binds us all together. Rest in peace, Gerald; you will be deeply missed but never forgotten

Barbara George

Barbara (Barb) D. George, 73, of Fairport, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 9, 2025, after a long battle with cancer.

In 1981, Barb met her husband, Mick, spending 44 wonderful years together, and raised three beautiful children, Miles, Lindsay, and Dylan.

Barb was a child of nature and a lover of all things creative. She had an incredible eye for a wide array of artistic mediums, including floral design, drawing, painting, and costume/fashion design, to name a few. She was the green thumb of the family, planting several beautiful gardens around her home and was the human database who knew the name of almost every flower she spotted. As a lifelong enthusiast of flowers, she turned her passions into a career as a florist for over 20 years. She had such an eye for floral arrangements, that her designs brought immense amounts of joy into many people’s lives and homes. She loved to draw, doodle and calligraphy, and she was also known for her famous birthday hats and cards that she would gift to family and friends. Barb created so many beautiful things and would think nothing of them, but everything she created was a true work of art, and will be cherished for years to come.

Barb’s priority was always her children and their health and happiness. She fostered a household environment filled with love and passion, and she consistently encouraged her kids to pursue what made them happy. There wasn’t a school play, concert, dance recital or soccer game that she missed. She always put her children’s needs before her own, and led by example of what it means to parent in the same way. In September 2024, Barb became a grandmother to her first grandchild, Parker, who absolutely lit up her world. Barb’s lessons as a mother will live on through her three children and generations to come.

She had a big personality and an even bigger heart, showing equal kindness to strangers as she would to her own family. The door was always open to all of her children's friends and she would always offer them snacks, which made them believe that she was the Italian in the family (she wasn't). Known by many names, including Barbie, B, Babs, Beebee, B-Buns, Queen Bee, Juju from Spain, and many others, but most importantly, Mom.

Barb is survived by her husband Mick George, children Miles (Sally) George, Lindsay (Grant) Gothing, and Dylan (Michaela) George, grandson Parker Gothing, brothers (Peter, Jimmy, Dan, and John), and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Predeceased by her father, Dr. Dan Davis, and mother Peggy Davis.

Barb put so much love and good into the world. She consistently lit up a room, made the world a lot brighter, and her legacy will live on. As she said in her art and in person: “Peace is the Child of Love”.

Services for Barb were held privately.
