UPDATE #3: Todd has done a fantastic job coordinating this effort! Last Tuesday, a truckload of 650 small square bales left Buffalo, NY, 50 round bales left Arkansas, and two truckloads of 50 round bales each left Alabama. All freight costs were donated. Last Wednesday, the first two semi-loads left Merrill, WI carrying 34 large square bales, and a third load left on Thursday with 700 small square bales. The cost to get these 3 loads to North Carolina will be approximately $4,100. Todd is working with trucking companies and volunteers to make getting hay to affected farmers doable. We have more trucks leaving this week! So far, over 14,000 round bales, 480 large square bales, and 5,250 small square bales have been donated. This much hay will require approximately 410 semi-loads. Todd estimates that all the donated hay should get them through the winter if we can get all of it to them. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated funds to make this possible! On October 24, Saint Stephens will host a Fundraising Spaghetti dinner and all proceeds will be donated towards hay transportation. Please check out our events page for more details!
UPDATE #2: All we can say is THANK YOU! Thank you to everyone who has stepped up with your generous donations of hay, funds, and trucking support! π Weβre absolutely thrilled to share that we've raised over $10,000 to help transport hay to our friends in North Carolina! Plus, the Wisconsin Conference of the United Church of Christ has also pledged $1,500 towards the transportation fees. This incredible outpouring of support is making a real difference for Bob Morris's farm and others in need of hay to keep their beloved animals fed and happy. The first four loads of hay are set to roll out by the end of this week or early next week!πβ¨ We plan to keep everyone in the loop as this amazing journey unfolds! Let's keep this momentum going together! Your support means the world! π
UPDATE: Wow! We are so surprised by the overwhelming willingness to help farmers in North Carolina. When we put this post out there, we had no idea we would get calls from so many other states willing to help! As of right now, we have 15 loads of hay that have been donated from a 50-mile radius of Merrill. CDL drivers are willing to donate their time to transport the loads to North Carolina. What we are in desperate need of is semi companies willing to donate or reduce the rate for their truck and trailers or even if farmers in our area have a 5th wheel truck and a trailer they would be willing to donate. We are working to cover the fuel and wear and tear expenses for those who are willing to donate their transportation vehicles. Saint Stephens has created a fund on our website to help with the transportation costs. If you are willing to donate, even if it is $5, we would be so grateful.
