Self-direction helps individuals living with a disability maintain their freedom and independence through home-based care services which they choose and manage themselves. Among the most popular forms of self-direction is the ability to hire a family member or friend as a personal care aide rather than having a stranger in your home or being placed into institutional care. At the core of self-direction is the belief that individuals receiving care know their needs better than anyone else and should be empowered to control any aspects of their care as they prefer.

We not only support the individuals recieving care but also their caregivers in the Consumer Directed Services program (Missouri's Home Health Care program). Caregivers as they are getting hired and working also need to take care of documentations and time tracking. Our Relationship Managers also provide guidance to them when they are in the program.

When you are taking care of a loved one, time feels like it is slipping and it becomes difficult to differentiate when you are taking care or spending time with them. Not having to add the responsiblities of another job and instead getting paid to take care of her mother made it easier for Monica.
