Healthy eyes contribute to a healthy brain! Remember, every single thing you do works down stream for your brain health and maintaining visual stimulus lifelong is a big part of that. Start having eye exams at least in your 40s even if you’ve never had significant vision issues. There’s so much that can be done proactively to protect visual health.

So many of us put off important conversations about addressing cholesterol until we have some type of vascular event. The 2026 ACC/AHA guidelines emphasize earlier, more aggressive LDL (“bad”) cholesterol lowering but it’s important that patients understand why this is so important, not just for heart health but for preventing stroke and dementia long term.

Menopause is finally having the conversation it deserves.

As one of a small number of US neurologists who is also a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, I want you to know that so many menopause symptoms are actually neurologic issues — and this film finally puts that conversation center stage.

I’m honored to be joining the panel discussion following the Rochester screening of The M-Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause — a documentary that says out loud what too many women have been told to ignore.

I’ll be there to talk about what this transition really means for your brain — and what we can do about it.

📍 The Little Theatre, Rochester 📅 Tuesday, March 31 at 7:00pm 🎟 Tickets at thelittle.org

Come for the film. Stay for the conversation!

A dementia diagnosis is heartbreaking. But more often than not what I see and hear from patient and families is a sense of relief, like they’ve been waiting to exhale. It’s never easy and indeed it never stops being one of the hardest things I do. But I want patients and families to know it might bring you some some sense of understanding and being able to breathe again.

Preventing something as devastating as dementia requires a mind-shift that has to start in mid-life, especially for women.
