Nalu Consciousness
My first float. The first float in a floatation tank for me was a 90 minute float session. I traveled about an hour and a half to experience what i had been hearing about for so long. In the tank my experience was restful, heartbeat was very loud, louder than I had ever heard before. My breath was steady, though I changed it up a bit for variety, deep and slow, to the style Wim Hoff recommends to maximize oxygenation, a basic hyperventilation. I really enjoyed my float, I remember giggling when I first ‘sat back’ and felt the density of the water support me. I felt as if I was flying like a newbie. Like when ‘The Greatest American Hero’ was learning to fly? Oops, showing my age. Anyway, I did drift off into the magical hypnogogic state, the state wher creative minds such as Thomas Edison, and Albert Einstein thought so valuable that they set up ways to awaken from their short naps so that they could write down the epiphanes that occured to them while in this state. I digress though, the best memory of my first float is how I felt when I exited the tank! I remember standing in front of the tank with the biggest sh*t eaten grin on my face with arms outstretched. It was the euphoria that one experiences while on vacation. You are three days settled in, and relaxed. You are overlooking a beautiful beach or vista, you outstrech your arms and remark to your loved one who you are with “Can it get any better than this?!” The intensity of that feeling after my first float I cannot over emphasize. And that grin lasted for days, I would tell everyone and anyone who would listen about floating. If I, an empathetic person, could be brought to a place where I felt the most empathy and compassion for my fellow human from floating.
If everyone floated, imagine what a better place the world could be!
So began my journey to learn all I could about this float thing. I read books, watched videos, listened to podcasts, and set the temp of my hot tub down to 93.5 F trying to replicate my float experience. I lamented, ‘It’s too bad Rochester couldn’t support a float center.’ (deep in negative programming still) to ‘I wonder who would open a center?’(better thought process, it’s working!) to “Hey, I might be the guy!” (there ya go!). All doors were open to me, and divinely, all things fell into place. Nalu was opened in March of 2016. Nalu’s mission has been to start small, grow organically, and make the tanks available to as many people as possible.
Why Nalu? What does it mean? I am a product of the Hawaiian Islands, I was raised there from 3 until completing my schooling. The Hawaiian people and culture are dear to my heart. There is an openness, the spirit of Aloha that permeates social interactions. Nalu means “wave” in Hawaiian. Nalu Float represents a movement, a wave, if you will, that will expand conciousness and the Aloha Spirit to all that come here. You can see the Nalu logo at the top of the page. It is many faceted as it represents many things, some of which were not apparent to me until after its inception. The center is where the water drop falls and emanates ripples out from the center affecting all around it. Creating waves out of ripples. We do that when we share our conscious experiences that we have, with others. Consciousness expands and as well share our energy, that energy expands. The center and the spiral like swooshes around the spiral also can represent the center of our galaxy, or solar system and planets’ paths around the center. The Nalu Logo also represents the eye of the storm, the sanctuary within our Center, or the tank from the chaos (at times, ok most of the time, lol) of the outside world. We also acivate our most powerful brainwaves in the tank, exciting and inspiring thoughts through our Theta and Gamma brainwaves. And we are in very salinated water, a bit like the ocean, but much more.
Our intention at Nalu Float and Healing Center is to provide a sanctuary within a chaotic world. One in which you can release all cares, and worries, and return refreshed and rejuvenated to your life. We are also here to help along the process of consciousness building, which starts with you loving you. The wonderful thing about the tanks is that they meet you where you are. They facilitate the release of hormones within our body and allow the parasympathetic nervous system to do it’s job: heal us! This awareness of what our bodies can and cannot do, is another part of our mission. Our bodies are our placebo. Meaning that they are the things that heal us when we are in a present state of mind, and are aware of what we intake. What we intake, whether it be environmentally, (via the news, or social media, or our grumpy neighbor), physically, like the food we eat, or mentally how we think about ourselves or allow others’ opinions of ourselves affect us. All of these things contribute to how well our body works for us. I am NOT suggesting that we can think away a broken leg, or perform emergency surgery via float tanks or the placebo. Know that we have more control in our health, mentally, physically, and emotionally than most of us know. Float Therapy has helped myself and many, many others overcome some great obstacles, by connecting us to our higher selves. Wont you come float with us? Let us change the world one float at a time.
