Kenneth Gregersen grew up in Buena Vista County, Iowa, in a rented house with no electricity or running water. But one gift changed everything, a bicycle his parents somehow managed to buy for $12 during the Great Depression. That bike became his escape, his joy, and the beginning of a lifelong love for cycling.

Life had kept him busy, raising a family, working hard, and later caring for his beloved wife, Evie, through her battle with Alzheimer’s. After she passed away five years ago, Ken found peace in morning bike rides, soaking in the fresh air and the memories they once shared.

When the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) passed through his town of Ankeny in 2023, Ken joined for a few miles and was instantly hooked. “I need to do this before I’m too old to do anything,” he said. He trained through winter, rode solo, and leaned on family for support. On Day 2, he completed the ride from Milford to Estherville in just 4.5 hours, which was faster than he expected. He also rode Day 6, proudly wearing a neon yellow jersey with “Gregersen” and “93” printed boldly on the back.

His message to fellow riders and dreamers everywhere: “It’s never too late. Find something that excites you and pursue it. That’s what keeps you young.”

We were honored to have Congressman Ralph Norman join us as a guest speaker at our recent Brew & Chew Veterans meetup (First Tuesday of every Month at Golden Corral in Rock Hill 9:30am). His continued support for our veterans and his strong voice for South Carolina have not gone unnoticed.

As he sets his sights on the Governor’s office, we’re grateful for the time he spent with us, listening to our veterans and sharing his vision for the future of our state. It’s clear his passion for service runs deep—and we’re excited to see what’s next.

Thank you again, Congressman Norman, for standing with those who’ve served.
