August is National Wellness Month, which encourages us to hone in on our daily habits & put more focus on how we’re taking care of ourselves. Exercise is one of many ways we can lead a healthy life. We are grateful for the walking paths around the pond at our Avera Merrill Pioneer campus that many community members enjoy & take advantage of. Tip: give the walking paths a try!

Just 30 minutes of exercise a day can give so many benefits to reap. Here are a few:

-Boosts your mood
-Clears your mind
-Can help keep you at a healthy weight
-Gives you more energy
-Assists with pain management

We are happy to announce that Dr. Nicholas Mouw from Sioux Center Health will be the new outreach surgeon to be taking Dr. Naqvi's place as he retires from his surgery career. We wish Dr. Naqvi the best in his future endeavors & we are thankful for his years of service. We welcome Dr. Mouw to our team at Avera Merrill Pioneer!

Dr. Mouw will be in Rock Rapids on Thursdays beginning on August 14. We welcome him to our team at Avera Merrill Pioneer & look forward to working with him to serve our patients.

July is UV Safety Awareness Month & we want to highlight the importance of protecting yourself & others from the sun's harmful UV rays.

UV radiation is the top cause of skin cancer. Skin cancer is also the most preventable of cancers. Here are some ways you can limit the UV exposure to your skin:

-Stay in shaded areas as much as possible, avoiding direct sunlight
-Wear clothing that covers your skin or a wide brimmed hat
-Limit the time in the sun during the peak exposure time from 10 AM-4 PM
