đź’™ Important Community Announcement đź’™
After nearly 50 years of service, Volunteer Information and Referral Service (VIRS) Respite Care will permanently close on March 31, 2026, due to a critical lack of funding.
Since 1979, VIRS Respite Care has been honored to serve Sweetwater County families by providing vital in-home personal care and much-needed respite for caregivers of elderly and disabled individuals. For decades, our work has helped seniors and people with disabilities remain in their homes while supporting the caregivers who love and care for them.
This decision was not made lightly.
“This is a heartbreaking decision,” said Melissa Searle, Executive Director.
“For almost 50 years, our CNA's and nurses have brought compassion and light to households in need. We are deeply grateful to the community for supporting us through many financial climates over the decades. Unfortunately, we can no longer secure the funding needed to continue providing services at the level our clients deserve.”
We extend our deepest gratitude to our staff, volunteers, board members, donors, and community partners who made this mission possible. Together, we have served thousands of individuals and families over the years.
As we prepare to close, we want to emphasize that the need for caregiving support remains great. We encourage our community to continue looking out for elderly and disabled neighbors and their caregivers. Simple acts of kindness—checking in, helping with groceries, or offering companionship—can make a meaningful difference.
