Rockford YMCA opens newly renovated Kids’ Care in partnership with the Goodwill Excel Center.

The Kids' Care will offer free on-site child care for the Excel Center students and is also free for YMCA members for up to two hours per day.

Schmeling Construction Co. transformed the space on the first floor to include play areas modeled after grocery stores, camp sites and construction zones. It also has a place for kids to create their own art. Other parts of the renovation moved the entrance to the main lobby to make it more convenient for families. An accessible ramp was also added to the entrance.

Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois Cuts Ribbon for their new Excel Center

The Goodwill Excel Center is located within the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA, 200 Y Blvd., in downtown Rockford. It’s a tuition-free high school that gives adults a second chance to earn their high school diploma and find a pathway to higher education or a new career and is the first of its kind in Illinois.

Schmeling Construction Co. built the renovations, which included new classrooms, offices and computer labs.

Cornerstone Special Care Facility

Cornerstone Special Care Facility in Sterling, IL held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new 25-acre campus.

Stenstrom Construction Group built the 49,600 sq. ft. specialized care residential complex. The new building meets the latest industry standards and allows more space for programs.

AGC of America Scholarships

Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships available.
The AGC Education and Research Foundation offers undergraduate and graduate level scholarships to students enrolled in ABET , ACCE and some ATMAE-accredited construction management or construction related engineering programs. Over $11 million in scholarships have been awarded to more than 4,500 students attending colleges and universities across the country. The criteria to apply for undergraduate and graduate scholarships outlines the eligibility to apply.

The application platform for funding students for the 2026–2027 academic year is now open! Apply by November 1, 2025.
• Undergraduate students: Scholarships of $2,500 per year for up to three years
• Graduate students: Scholarships of $3,750 per year for up to two years.
