Employee Spotlight Follow-Up: Q & A with Anthony Corbo
As part of our effort to help our community get to know our team on a deeper level, we’re sharing a Q & A with Willow Creek therapist Anthony Corbo.
Q: If you weren’t a therapist, what career do you think you’d have?
A: I’d want to be a marine biologist. I lived in Florida for a short period as a child and have always loved the water and ocean. I also love Shark Week.
Q: What’s your go-to self-care activity after a long day?
A: Walking my dog with my wife and newborn son, or reading.
Q: Do you have a favorite mental health meme or joke?
A: The classic “everything is fine” meme with the dog sitting in a burning room.
Q: Do you have a favorite feel-good book or movie you recommend to clients?
A: Rudy. It’s a great example of overcoming hardship and adversity.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you find yourself giving often?
A: Short-term suffering for long-term payoff.
Q: What’s a small, simple mental health tip you think everyone should know?
A: Square or triangle breathing.
Q: What inspired you to become a therapist?
A: Umpiring and working with kids and families, along with my love for psychology—but not the research side of it.
Q: How do you personally define success in therapy?
A: Any form of progress or willingness to challenge oneself.
Q: What’s your favorite way to recharge over the weekend?
A: Gardening, sports, and spending time with family.
Q: If you had to describe your counseling style in three words, what would they be?
A: Laidback, caring, and encouraging.
Q: What advice would you give someone who is nervous about starting therapy?
A: You’ll never know what could be if you don’t try. That applies to life in general, too.
Q: If you could write a mental health book, what topic would you choose?
A: ADHD in teens and adults.
Q: Coffee, tea, or something else to start your day?
A: Coffee or carbonated tea.
Q: If your therapy office had a mascot, what would it be and why?
A: An Australian cattle dog, because I love them and they’re hardworking, loyal, and often misunderstood.
We’re grateful for Anthony’s dedication, insight, and the genuine care he brings to his work. Stay tuned as we continue to highlight more of the wonderful team at Willow Creek Counseling.
