Dahlia Center

Dahlia Center Women's Psychiatry and Hormonal Health. Medication, hormone replacement therapy, and holistic treatment options. Telehealth throughout Illinois.

www.DahliaPerinatal.com Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) are the most common complication of pregnancy, affecting up to 1 in 5 patients. Fortunately they're very treatable, and certification in Perinatal Mental Health means Dahlia Center has the expertise to work with you to navigate your treatment and help both you and your baby thrive. We see all women of reproductive age (18-50 years old) for their psychiatric needs. You don't need to be pregnant or postpartum to see someone who understands the experiences and struggles unique to women. Hormones, trauma, relationship and work inequities, parenting, stress. They all play an important role in women's mental health. Not everyone feels comfortable taking psychiatric medication, or wants to rely exclusively on medication for their mental health. All of the providers at Dahlia Center are completing a Reproductive and Integrative Psychiatry Fellowship. We work with you to create an evidence based, holistic mental health plan that incorporates lifestyle changes, herbs and supplements, and correction of hormonal imbalances, in addition to providing psychiatric medication management. Many people do need medication for their mental health, but we would much rather correct underlying issues than try to cover them up with a higher dose of medication than might be necessary. We believe in collaborative care, and that you are the expert in you! All services are provided via telehealth anywhere in Illinois. Schedule an appointment online at www.dahliaperinatal.com

If you are considering pregnancy, preconception counseling is available to optimize your medications and mental health prior to conception to ensure the lowest risk possible for you and your baby. Visit www.DahliaPerinatal.com for more information or to schedule an appointment today!

Parenting is not hard because you’re failing.
It’s hard because raising tiny humans with big feelings, zero impulse control, and nervous systems still under construction is a big job.

You’re navigating: • sleepless nights
• constant needs
• emotional storms
• your own triggers and childhood patterns
• an endless list of decisions with no manual

And you’re doing it while trying to show up with patience, love, empathy, and boundaries — even on days you feel completely drained.

Hard doesn’t mean hopeless.
Hard doesn’t mean you’re not cut out for this.
Hard means you’re doing the work.

If no one told you today:
You are doing an incredible job, even when it doesn’t feel like it. 💛

For deeper, practical support in navigating behaviour, emotions and connection, my book Guidance from The Therapist Parent is available on my website www.thetherapistparent.com and on Amazon.

We all wish setting a limit looked like:
➡️ “No” → instant cooperation

But in real life?
Setting a limit is rarely a straight line — and it’s not because you’re doing it wrong.
It’s because children learn boundaries through connection, not compliance.

A realistic limit-setting moment might look like:
✔️ pushback
✔️ big feelings
✔️ validation
✔️ holding the limit
✔️ getting curious
✔️ working with your child, not against them

And eventually… cooperation arrives.

If it feels messy, emotional and repetitive — that’s parenting.
Limits stick best when they’re delivered with calm, empathy and consistency… not perfection.

✨ You’re not failing. You’re teaching.

In fact, multiple reviews of the existing credible scientific research by experts over decades have repeatedly found no evidence that autism is caused by or related to vaccines given during pregnancy or early childhood. Evidence-based recommendations are based on well-designed scientific research that includes rigorous, peer-reviewed studies from reliable sources and is free from ideological bias.

November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance, where we acknowledge and honor the trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming lives cut short by anti-trans violence. With the rise of anti-trans laws, attacks on health care, and hate crimes, the fight for their futures and their rights is urgent.

Trans and nonbinary people deserve more than equality – they deserve safety, dignity, joy, and more than anything, they deserve to grow old.

Mental Health or Perimenopause?

Mood swings, anxiety, brain fog, and sleep changes... are they signs of depression and anxiety, or are your hormones shifting with perimenopause? The truth is, it’s often both. Hormonal changes during perimenopause can mimic or worsen mental health symptoms, making it hard to know what’s really going on.

At Dahlia Center, we look at the full picture. That means:

- Reviewing both mental health history and hormonal patterns
- Evaluating lab work, cycle changes, and physical symptoms
- Offering treatment that addresses both mind and body
- Medication management for psychiatry and hormone replacement therapy

You don’t have to choose between “mental health” and “hormonal health.” The two are deeply connected, and you deserve care that recognizes both.
