This time of year we look forward to our men being able to gather around Father’s Day. This year the men’s event was themed “Up, Up, and Away” (Planes). Mike Frederiksen from Rock Valley College was here and shared information about Fred Machesney who was an aviator. Fred Machesney is who Machesney Park is named after, but he also founded and operated an independent airport in 1927 which is now the Machesney Park Mall.

Residents invited a Special Person to an afternoon of conversation, food, and fun. Residents and their special person were able to take a picture at our photo booth, decorate frames, and take them home! The chapel was buzzing with conversation and activity.

We are happy to announce that Jenice Storm, MHA, BSN, RN has accepted the position of Director of Nursing here at Fairhaven. Jenice served Fairhaven for two years as Assistant Director. Her love, care, concern, and commitment of our mission statement “to provide a comfortable lifestyle and exceptional care which enhances quality of life in a manner that glorifies God” for Fairhaven is apparent in her every day.

The Fairhaven Ladies filled our chapel to enjoy the annual Ladie’s Tea themed Sunflowers & Sunshine. Refreshments of sunshine cakes and tea were enjoyed while being blessed with special music from Deb & Beth. As you can see there were lots of smiles during an afternoon with wonderful women.

Over 100 volunteers came to the volunteer recognition themed “Seeds of Service”. After enjoying a meal together, Tim Gruner, head of horticulture at Andersen Japanese Gardens, shared the history of how the gardens were created and maintained. It was a wonderful afternoon set aside to thank our amazing volunteers that make a daily difference in a variety of ways around Fairhaven.

Happy birthday Esther! It was Fairhaven’s privilege to honor Esther today. Keeping with tradition, we had a special cake designed for Esther and delivered 100 red roses to her. Many staff, residents and family gathered to wish her a very special birthday and singing to her, of course! We are grateful for Esther and her family and honored they are all part of our Fairhaven family.

February 14th was Jeff Reierson’s last day as Fairhaven’s executive director. We held two special times giving residents and staff the opportunity to say goodbye and thank Jeff for his years of dedicated service. Jeff has faithfully served Fairhaven for 29 years. Most of his time at Fairhaven was as the financial director, however for the past six years Jeff has been the executive director. We pray for blessings in this next season for both Jeff and Carol during retirement.

Valentine’s day… the day to show your love to friends and family.
Fairhaven hosts a special lunch for couples to dine together with shared company of other couples. The 4th grade class at Whitman Post Elementary School made special pictures which were used as placemats and assembled candy bags.
Roscoe Chiropractic donated carnations so that every resident received a special “thinking of you” Valentine. Starbucks also gave Valentine cards to pass out with flowers.
Thank you to staff and those in the community for helping everyone at Fairhaven feel loved on this iconic day.
