Chronic kidney disease is often called a “silent disease” because many people experience no symptoms in the early stages.

Nearly 1 in 7 adults has kidney disease, and many do not know it. Risk factors include high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and family history.

Early detection through routine blood and urine testing can help identify kidney problems before symptoms appear.

When was the last time your kidney health was checked?

Happy Feel-Good Friday!
Better days really do grow from small habits, especially when living with kidney disease.

With the beautiful weather we’ve been having in northern Illinois, take advantage of it in ways your body can tolerate. You don’t have to overdo it to feel better.

☀️ Sit outside for 10–15 minutes and get some sunlight (helps mood & sleep)
🚶‍♀️ Take a short, flat walk. Even to the mailbox and back counts!
🌼 Do light stretching on the porch or near an open window
🧠 Call or visit a friend outdoors for fresh air and connection
💧 Enjoy your favorite kidney friendly drink outside (within your fluid plan)

Small, consistent moments of movement and calm can support blood pressure, energy, and overall well-being.

Always check with your provider before starting new activities or diet changes. Call our office with any questions at 815-227-8300

❤️ National Heart Failure Awareness Week

Did you know the heart and kidneys work closely together?

When the heart isn’t pumping effectively, it can reduce blood flow to the kidneys. In turn, kidney disease can make it harder for the body to remove excess fluid, placing more strain on the heart.

At Rockford Nephrology Associates, we help patients manage:
• Chronic kidney disease
• High blood pressure
• Fluid balance
• Sodium management

Protecting your kidneys also helps protect your heart.

If you have swelling, shortness of breath, or uncontrolled blood pressure, talk with your provider.

Watching your sodium intake is an important step in managing blood pressure and protecting your kidneys. If you have questions about your diet, our team is here to help.😁

3 Simple Sodium Tips:

1. Check food labels
Choose foods labeled “low sodium” or “no salt added” when possible.

2. Rinse canned foods
Rinsing beans, vegetables, and soups can remove up to 40% of the sodium.

3. Flavor with herbs instead of salt
Use garlic, lemon, pepper, or salt-free seasoning blends to add flavor without extra sodium.
