Siena Spotlight on Community Member Carol Scaime!
Carol Sciame was born on October 4th, 1935, in Dubuque Iowa. The oldest of two children to George and Lucille Buddon. Her family first moved to Galena and later settled in Rockford. Carol’s little brother Dick joined the family not long after. Carol and Dick were raised in Rockford, attending Catholic School throughout their younger years and Carol went on to attend St. Anthony’s Nursing School.
Carol and her husband dated for three years before getting married just two months after Carol graduated nursing school in 1956. Carol devoted 25 years to her career as a pediatric nurse. She later transitioned into utilization review for Medicare where she worked for another ten years. Their family grew to include six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Carol and her husband Carl loved to travel. After Carol lost Carl, she continued to travel with friends and eventually bought a house in Arizona, where she lived for twenty years.
When Carol first thought about moving back home, Siena caught her eye because of the friendly atmosphere and convenient location. She loves that Siena is in her old neighborhood, she was familiar with the grocery stores and other primary locations around that it didn’t necessarily feel like a big change. It felt like moving back home.
Knowing she would was no longer able to drive and caring for her home was becoming costly, Carol knew making her decision to move to Siena was the right one. Today, Carol enjoys the many outings Siena offers and deeply appreciates the opportunities to practice her Catholic faith alongside fellow community members. Having faith-based programs offered on-site was one more reason Siena felt like the perfect fit. Carol knew lots of Siena community members before moving in, and that helped her adjust smoothly. Carol moved to Siena only six months ago, but it feels like she has always been a part of the Siena family.
