Research shows that children are disproportionately vulnerable to tick-borne illnesses. Lyme disease is most prevalent in older adults and children; children aged 5 to 14 are at the greatest risk of contracting tick borne illnesses.

In fact, an outbreak of arthritis in children was partly responsible for the first clinical description of Lyme disease back in 1975.

It may surprise you to learn that tick encounters tend to go down in August. And maybe that’s a relief after making it through the 3 “tickiest” months of May, June and July. But there are still ticks out there. We thought you might like to know which ticks you need to look out for in August. Unfortunately, August is larval tick season, and larvae are nearly microscopic. Singer Justin Timberlake recently revealed that he’s been battling Lyme disease. He shared the news in an Instagram post, explaining that symptoms like nerve pain, fatigue, and sickness made performing extremely difficult. At one point, he considered stepping away from touring altogether but ultimately chose to continue, saying the joy of performing outweighed the physical toll.

Timberlake said he was initially hesitant to go public with his diagnosis but wanted to be more transparent so fans wouldn’t misinterpret his struggles. Videos from the tour showed him taking extended breaks during songs and relying on the audience to sing along.
