Dr. Johnson grew up in Winnebago, IL and graduated from Winnebago High School in 2001. After high school he elected to go on a service mission for his church for two years in the upstate New York area. He then pursued his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University - Idaho. While attending there he became the president of the pre-optometry club on campus. He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Communication in 2008. After college, he moved his family to Memphis, TN to attend Southern College of Optometry. While there he was awarded a scholarship for leadership and academic success each of the four years he attended. While at optometry school he was inducted into Beta Sigma Kappa, optometry’s international honor fraternity. He received his doctorate in May of 2012. His training included working at Southern Eye Associates, a large referral-based surgery center in Memphis, which had a heavy emphasis on ocular disease management as well as co-managing cataract, refractive, and retinal surgery. He also had the opportunity to manage many pediatric patients with his experience at Southern College of Optometry. Following graduation from optometry school Dr. Johnson accepted a position at Shopko Eyecare Center in Belvidere, IL where he worked for seven years and in April 2019 he accepted a position with Merchealth where he now currently practices.
