Autumn is a time to say goodbye to the Spirit of Summer (for now) and a great time to reset ourselves as we metabolize the harvests of the past year.

If we see our lives like a garden, we can utilize the resting time of the coming Winter to manifest fertile soil, to plant the seeds of our dreams, and to feed them as we watch them come to fruition next Summer.

Tending to our garden may include carving out more time to self-care, to rest, and speaking kindly to oneself.

From there, it may be as simple as taking the time to ask a loved one how they are doing and to then listen with your full presence. Or, you might surprise a sick or sad neighbor with a special dish made with love or a cup of their favorite tea.

Tending to your garden with simple acts of kindness will ripple out across the web of life that we are intrinsically woven into.

What seeds do you wish to birth into life?

💪🏽

Today, at 2:19pm ET, we come into Autumn Equinox. As the days shorten and the leaves begin to turn brilliant reds, oranges, and golds, today marks the midpoint between the Summer and Winter Solstices. We are indeed at a balance point right now!

The definition of equinox is “equal” (equi) + “night” (nox) and marks the two moments of the year when the Sun is directly over the Earth's equator with an equal number of day hours and night hours. Contrary to the very yang energy of Summer, this is a time of slow inward reaching, reflection, gratitude, and balance.

Those who celebrate Mabon create altars adorned with symbols such as acorns, apples, the Celtic Wheel of the Year, as well as candles in autumnal colors like orange, red, gold, and brown. The altars serve as a focal point for meditation and offerings to the ancestors, the Spirit of Mabon, and the spirits of Nature who are all around us.

As we prepare for the bounty of the harvest and the oncoming season of Winter, you might start a journal to reflect on what you're ready to let go of as the trees effortlessly let go of their leaves. 🍁

I often go to the ancestors to ask about how they navigated through difficult times in their lives, and how their wisdom might support our own navigation in our world now. They have gained wisdom that we all could use to tap into, especially during these current Tower Times.

"You are invited to join hands with the legions of ancestors that you are already interconnected with, whether by bones and blood, past lives or non-human kin. We keep the fire burning through the darkness. We seek balance and justice in our worlds and we know you seek it in yours as well.

Keep the flame of truth alive in your hearts. Your flame will assist the lighting of many dark nights, but through this, you will come to understand that it is through loss and grief that propels the reunification of people and helps us in rebirthing of ourselves from the ashes. For it is only in times such as yours now that we can become more clear in what dreams live in our hearts. Your task now in your embodied time is to relight the fires of forefathers and mothers as you build an even stronger foundation."

Through their blessings and even through their burdens, we can learn from the ancestors and how they responded to their experiences in their lives and then we can apply that Elder wisdom to our paths. These experiences can be seen as their blessings and not just burdens. These blessings live in us and through us.

So, speak to the ancestors... give them offerings to acknowledge them. These are often foods and spirits they enjoyed while they were embodied.

Pray to the ancestors. They are already listening and waiting for your permission to assist. Then, lean back, for they are a network of support for us during difficult times such as these.

😇 🙏

The importance of being rested and embodied is how we can be in “rebellion” in this modern patriarchal culture. It is also an act of personal power to disengage from the artificial droning of technology and the constant fear in the world! The harsh energies of disconnect are dense, heavy, and all around us.

My helping spirits show me that stillness is necessary to bring forth into our external world the sacred magic found within. This is a very feminine way of creating in this world. The dreams that we give birth to in the fertile periods of our life require strong internal footing. It's essential to lean into the natural rhythms of rest that we all need to restore ourselves and cultivate the lasting change that our hearts so desire to see.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, allow yourself the opportunity to unplug and realign with the rhythms of the natural world. That innate rhythm rebels against the plastic pace of this culture and leads us to the intelligence within - and THAT is the medicine we all need. ☤

"Once an individual who is experiencing illness makes a clear impassioned decision that she wants to feel good again, she has set the revival of her experience of health in motion. If she does not resist this experience, but rather focuses on those things and ideas that feel good to her spirit, envisioning her health, feeling her health, easing inner resistance, allowing the flow of ideas that ignite feelings of joy in her life, and letting these feelings becomes the seeds of fresh experience, the return of her innate health is hers; it is inevitable. If she feels she needs an ally to help her find the state of mind that allows this transformation, whatever or whoever she believes will do this is good medicine for her.

"This is the nature of medicine; it is an ally. It matters not which medicine-path one chooses. All medicines are powerful when empowered by an individual's belief in them, coupled with one's focused desire to be well, or to have whatever else it is that is wanted. With the empowerment of one's creative thought and passionate will, medicine becomes a potent companion. It becomes wholly empowered to uplift, sooth, nourish and assist."

Do you ever wonder if a caterpillar experiences pain during its metamorphosis or if the shedding of its exoskeleton is a joyful release?

We are not the only beings with intelligence or sentience. We have so much to learn from the spirits in nature who walk alongside us on this beautiful Earth.

They can teach us how to navigate our own changing times.

I noticed this beautiful caterpillar on the dill going to seed in my garden.

It's a black swallowtail larvae! 🐛 🦋

I wonder if it knows what it will become... is it doubtful of its future? Will it help this caterpillar endure the "mush" stage to envision what it's becoming?

Or is this caterpillar just present and in the moment with the experience?

What might happen if we envision ourselves becoming something more than we could ever imagine, being present with every breath?

Life transformations are challenging. We can drink deep from the wisdom of nature if we stop to listen.

My helping spirits recently gave me clearer understanding about the concept of order and chaos so that I might translate it.

They said:
"There is a lesson of centering when chaos is our external experience. It is imperative that humans find their sovereign center during chaos rather than being reactive. Humans who are not conscious of their inner world tend to bounce their reactivity from person to person rather than searching for their own power and then responding from an empowered place within."

I was shown that there is grace to be found even when one’s inner world is hurling into what seems like chaos, dizziness and distortion of thought, as these Tower Times can do so well to each of us - individually and collectively.

There is a centeredness available to all of us that is undeterred and unaffected by external chaos. Within each of us lies this place of balance and order. It is from this place that we can mindfully make decisions for ourselves and the greater good.

For those of us who grew up around parents with whom we may have felt powerless around, these patriarchal, authoritarian times might feel incredibly activating. It’s important to take care of that part of you that may feel powerless and to participate in activities that do empower you and feed your resilience.

Giving ourselves grace summons to my mind all sorts of imagery of a calm and unruffled demeanor (much like a swan on a calm body of water) that responds rather than reacts. This is a version of grace we may need to show ourselves more… Being kind, courteous, thoughtful, generous, and compassionate...

"If you want to love, take the time to listen to your heart. In most ancient and wise cultures it is a regular practice for people to talk to their heart. There are rituals, stories, and meditative skills in every spiritual tradition that awaken the voice of the heart. To live wisely, this practice is essential, because our heart is the source of our connection to and intimacy with all of life. And life is love. This mysterious quality of love is all around us, as real as gravity... Yet how often we forget about love."
