This Week in Ultras: Ultra Fest hits Easton, WA this September, and it’s shaping up to be a trail party with something for every ultra distance lover.

📍 Ultra Fest – Easton, WA (September 20–21, 2025)
Distances: 100M, 100K, 50M, 50K, 25K

Earn a buckle at 50M, 100K & 100M; 50K & 25K runners get a custom medal.

Starting from Easton’s firehouse, courses run west through the heart of the Central Cascades — along the Yakima River and Foothills Trail, through the Whittier Tunnel, and beside Keechelus Lake before returning via Hyak.

Expect smoother, faster terrain than past years — it’s gravel and wide trail, not technical singletrack, with generous time limits that make this race great for both newbies and seasoned ultra runners chasing PRs.

On-site parking and zero buses make logistics easy, and the Run Super Series delivers top-tier support and aid stations.

This Week in Ultras: One race circles the park for hours. The other circles a volcano. Two very different beasts, same relentless energy.

📍 Hamster Endurance Runs – Bellingham, WA (August 2)
Options: 6H, 12H, 24H, 32H
A flat, fast, and deceptively challenging loop around Lake Padden. The name may be fun, but these timed races are a mental grind. It’s you versus the clock — how far can you go?

📍 Volcanic 50 – Cougar, WA (August 2)
Distance: 50K
A rugged circumnavigation of Mount St. Helens. Expect technical terrain, lava fields, river crossings, ash-covered ridges, and some of the most otherworldly scenery in the PNW. No pacers, no crew — just pure mountain grit.

This Week in Ultras: Two beasts, two styles — one gritty weekend on the trails.

📍 Brokenagan Backyard Ultra – Vernon, BC (July 26)
Format: Backyard Ultra
Every hour on the hour, runners toe the line to complete a 6.706 km loop until only one remains. This Okanagan sufferfest is as mental as it is physical — strategy meets stubbornness in the ultimate test of endurance.

📍 Buckin’ Hell – North Vancouver, BC (July 26)
Distance: 50K (plus shorter distances)
With nearly 2,600m of elevation gain, technical singletrack, and classic North Shore terrain, this race lives up to its name. Roots, rocks, relentless climbs — and some of the best views in the Sea to Sky corridor.

Race Event Spotlight 🏔️

This Week in Ultras: From the rugged Cascades to BC’s high alpine ridges, two legendary events are on tap this weekend.

📍 Cascade Crest 100 – Easton, WA (July 18)
Distance: 100 Miles
A Pacific Northwest classic and one of the toughest 100-milers around. Technical trails, long climbs, remote ridgelines, and a whole lot of soul. This race brings old-school vibes with massive scenery and serious grit.

📍 Broken Goat – Rossland, BC (July 19)
Distance: 50K
A big mountain point-to-point in the Kootenays. Runners traverse ridgelines above 2,400m, scramble rocky goat paths, and soak in panoramic views. It’s raw, exposed, and absolutely stunning.

This Week in Ultras: From coastal climbs to wild interior peaks, four fierce races are lighting up the trails this weekend.

📍 Kaslo Wild Ultra – Kaslo, BC (July 12)
Distances: 50K & 100K
High alpine views, colourful ridgelines, and the raw beauty of BC’s West Kootenays. This one brings the WILD in every sense.

📍 Knee Knackering North Shore Trail Run – North Vancouver, BC (July 12)
Distance: 30 Miles (48K)
A technical, iconic out-and-back on the Baden-Powell Trail with nearly 8,000 ft of elevation gain. One of Canada’s toughest short ultras.

📍 Devil’s Ladder Ultra – Cumberland, BC (July 12)
Distances: 15K, 30K, 50K
Climbs, roots, switchbacks, and fast singletrack through lush Vancouver Island forest. A gritty favourite with a killer name to match.

📍 Devil’s Gulch – Wenatchee, WA (July 12)
Distance: 50K
Steep climbs, fast descents, and remote ridgelines in the Cascade foothills. A classic Washington challenge.

📍 The Alpenglow 100 – Valemount, BC (July 4–6)
Distances: 35K, 60K, 100K, plus a kids race
Vale. Vert. Views. Vibes.
This multi-day mountain race unfolds across McKirdy & Swift peaks—both topping out over 2,300m (7,500+ ft)—with sweeping views of Mt. Robson, the Monashees, Kinbasket Lake, and endless jagged Rockies. Valemount is remote, rugged, and real—exactly what trail running should be.

Tucked between three mountain ranges and just an hour from Jasper, AB, this event delivers big vert, big sky, and a small-town soul. If you’ve never witnessed the magic of true alpenglow on the peaks, you’re in for something unforgettable.

📍 Top of the World Ultra – Sun Peaks, BC (June 28)
Distances: 50K, 28K, 15K
Scenic alpine singletrack across three mountains with major elevation gains and panoramic views.

📍 Tackle the Toad – Nelson, BC (June 28)
Distances: 50K & 20K
A rugged challenge up Toad Mountain with ~2,500m of vert and a whole lot of character.

📍 Tiger Peak Challenge – Issaquah, WA (June 28)
Distances: 5-Mile, Half Marathon, 50K
A technical mountain race through Tiger Mountain State Forest. Expect steep climbs, wild singletrack, and over 9,000 ft of elevation gain in the 50K.

📍 SISU 24 PNW – Pacific Northwest (June 28)
A 24-hour endurance event built around community, mental toughness, and pushing your physical limits — as far as you can go in one day.

📍 Hellz Bellz Ultra – California (June 29)
