We hope you have been enjoying the NYT- Well 5-Day Brain Health Challenge with us this week!
They have provided a lot of great information and bite-sized ways of incrementally adding some habits to our days that will serve to keep our brains healthier for longer—improving quality of life overall! It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Don’t plan to add something that will be hard to fit in and make a habit. Find things that work with your life but point you in the right direction.
To re-cap some of the take home gems:
👟 Move! That could be getting 5000 or more steps in your day, doing a 10-minute physical workout once or twice in a day, or making a point to get up and move for a few minutes every hour.
📚 Learn new things. Expose yourself to a new hobby, a new game, or travel whether far afield or to a museum that you have not seen before. Take a class.
👥 Be social. Stay connected.
🫖 Treat yourself to relaxation practices to keep your stress level in check. If you need help with reducing anxiety/stress, or improving mood, reach out to us!
🥗 Maybe your diet could be better? Consider adopting principles from the MIND diethttps://www.alz.org/getmedia/123b671b-d306-4ca5-b096-fa3f25221ae9/tue-8_15-am-keynote-mind-diet-wi-alz.pdf
Maybe that feels like too much of a change. Try thinking of adding things rather than taking things away. Maybe just start with eating more leafy green vegetables and try adding humus for a protein.
