From Struggles to Success: My Journey as a Mother and Nutritionist
At 40, I am a mother of four extraordinary children, each navigating life with ADHD, and one with the added complexity of autism. My own journey with ADHD remained undiagnosed until adulthood, leaving me to grapple with feelings of inadequacy and failure for much of my life. It was a battle I fought quietly, often feeling like I was falling short while trying to be the best parent I could be.
Despite these challenges, I discovered my grit and perseverance. While pregnant with my third child, I enrolled in a Master’s program in Nutrition. I gave birth halfway through the program and faced the daunting waves of postpartum depression. Yet, I refused to quit. Balancing motherhood and my studies was tough, but I graduated with a 3.2 GPA, a testament to my resilience.
After earning my degree, I secured my dream internship, where I completed over 1,000 hours of clinical experience. Passing the CNS board exam on my first attempt felt like a victory against the odds stacked against me. Each achievement was a reminder that I was capable, despite the internal struggles I had faced for so long.
Starting my own nutrition practice was an endeavor born from necessity and passion. With little money and no one to help me, I immersed myself in research, teaching myself every aspect of building a business. The process has been daunting, filled with moments of self-doubt (still do from time to time), but I kept pushing forward, determined to make a difference.
Now, as I continue to grow my practice, I hold onto my dream of helping thousands of others with ADHD improve their health through nutrition and lifestyle changes. The imposter syndrome still whispers in my ear, but I remind myself that every step I take is a testament to my journey. I am more than my struggles; I am a mother, a professional, and an advocate for those like me. I’ve learned that resilience isn’t just about surviving; it’s about thriving against the odds. My story is still being written, and with each day, I strive to inspire others to embrace their challenges and transform them into strengths.
