We've been having huge problems with patients with FDA approved indications for GLP medications (diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea and not tolerating CPAP) getting turned down by their insurers despite our prior authorization requests.

When an insurance company is deciding whether to pay for your medical treatment, it generates a file, which should contain all records associated with your case, including documents explaining why the claim was denied.

Remember to use repellent and do regular tick checks this season! And to call your doctor if you have concerns about a high-risk bite, engorged deer tick, attached for more than 36 hrs). Don’t let the ticks ruin your enjoyment of the outdoors, though - it’s lovely out!!

I got out of the office Friday morning to talk about our experience with and resources for Direct Primary Care (DPC) at the Maine Academy of Family Physicians - MAFP annual meeting across town in Rockport.

From two physicians in 2014, DPC in Maine has grown to fifty physicians today. Per capita, Maine has the most DPC practices in the country!

Paying a monthly membership fee is a different way of accessing care, for many … reminded again, though, of how it can save a family $$! This week: Megunticook patient needing 6 different lab tests: of which 2 we were able to do in the office (no charge) and the rest were billed out using a discount system, saving the family probably a couple of hundred dollars!

We're not the only ones who like the arrival of warmer days.

Restart the tick checks after being outside, spray pants with permethrin, etc.

Call your physician if a deer tick is attached for 36 hours to discuss whether a preventative dose of doxycycline is indicated.

The state logged a record 4,257 Lyme disease cases in 2025, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
