DPC highlight of the week: helping some of our (previously most anxious) young patients through their flu shots! One in particular used to have to be carried in, in tears … and now loves coming to the doctor’s!!

For our adult patients, I recommend you get the fall COVID vaccine this week while it's covered by insurance and no prescription is required. There's a meeting of the Federal vaccine committee in Washington this week that may further restrict your access to vaccines.

I was able to get mine at Walgreens. Osco/Shaws has them too. Other pharmacies should have them available now. We will have free flu vaccine at the office for our patients as usual any day now.

Moxie got her annual boosters last week.

Just in time, as we're starting to see a bit more COVID here lately:

"On Friday, Mills directed the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention to issue a quote "standing order" that will allow Mainers to receive COVID shots at pharmacies, clinics and doctor’s offices without first obtaining a prescription.

In a related move, the Maine Bureau of Insurance notified health insurers on Friday that they are required to provide full coverage of COVID vaccines."

Last month, federal regulators changed the guidelines so that only those with a high-risk medical condition or who are age 65 or older qualify for the latest COVID vaccines.

RFK Jr. has restricted their use considerably. The American Academy of Pediatrics , American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists - ACOG and others disagree. We're not sure yet how this'll play out with insurance coverage and other issues.
