As a therapist working with individuals desperate to build their family, I was sad to hear about the attack on a fertility clinic in California last week. Today, hearing that there is proposal to remove the protections that are in place to keep people safe, I'm sad and scared.

The House Judiciary Committee is considering legislation that would repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act - a critical federal law that has protected patients and providers from violence, threats, and intimidation at reproductive health care facilities for over three decades.

This proposed repeal comes just days after a devastating car bombing outside a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California, which injured four people and is being investigated as an act of domestic terrorism.

The FACE Act prohibits the use of force, threats of force, or physical obstruction to interfere with individuals obtaining or providing reproductive health services. Since its enactment, the FACE Act has been instrumental in reducing such violence and ensuring safe access to care. Repealing the FACE Act would remove these vital protections, leaving patients and providers vulnerable to harassment and violence.

This is my second time participating in Advocacy Day and it was a great experience.

I’m Proud to be able to advocate for accessibility of IVF in the US with many wonderful advocates who were willing to share their stories and experiences in the world of infertility.

We believe it is important that everyone, regardless of their zip code, deserves access to medical assistance to build their families. All Americans should be able to receive the standard of care and to do so without challenges such as out of pocket costs serving as barriers to treatment.
