Welcome to the first Instrument of the Week, where we explore one of MMT's many instruments used in sessions! Only seems fitting to start with the rainstick after all the downpour we've had. The rainstick is a fullbody experience! Some enjoy the sound 👂 reminiscent of the steady pitter patter of rain on the roof, others love to watch 👀 the hundreds of tiny beads bounce down the many levels in clear rainsticks like this one. Some enjoy the tactile sensation ✋ of the beads bouncing off the sides. Regardless of what this instrument ignites in your body, there are so many different ways to explore with it.
✨Leave a comment of how YOU like to play with the rainstick!✨
History of the rainstick:
The origins of the rainstick appear to be somewhat uncertain. Some believe its birth occured within the Incan/Aztec Empires, others say it originated in Chile, West Africa, or Mexico. Though its original birthplace is not officially decided upon, we know the rainstick has been created and played across many cultures, and is still widely included in today's musical scenes. Though ours is primarily made from plastic, others are made from cactus stalks with the thorns pushed internally for beads/beans/rice to bounce off of. All creating a unique musical and magical rainy experience 🌧
