What are the symptoms of Parkinson's disease?
The symptoms can be different for different people. The more obvious symptoms are the motor symptoms including stiffness, slowness, and a resting tremor.
It's important to note that not every person has all three motor symptoms. Some of these symptoms contribute to difficulty walking and imbalance. Physical therapy helps to reduce these issues.

What is LSVT BIG for Parkinson's Disease?

LSVT BIG is a physical therapy program that trains people with Parkinson disease to use their body more normally. People with Parkinson's often move with gestures and actions that are small and slow. They may have trouble walking, getting dressed, or writing. LSVT BIG trains improved movements for any activity, from buttoning a shirt to getting up from sofa and maintaining balance while walking. Today is World Parkinson's Day!

Parkinson's disease occurs when brain cells that make dopamine, a chemical that coordinates movement, stop working or die. This leads to symptoms of stiffness, slowness, tremors, walking or balance disorders. What are the danger signs of a brain injury?

In rare cases, after a blow to the head, a hematoma (collection of blood) can form on the brain. This is a medical emergency and should the person should be taken to the emergency room immediately.

Symptoms of this include:
1. One pupil larger than the other
2. Drowsiness or inability to wake up
3. A headache that get's worse or does not go away
4. Slurred speech, weakness, numbness or lack of coordination
5. Convulsions or seizures
6. Confusion, restlessness or agitation
7. Loss of consciousness

3. Balance or dizziness
4. Double or blurry vision
5. Sensitivity to light or sound
6. Feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy or groggy
7. Confusion or concentration/memory problems

If someone has any of these symptoms after a bump, blow or jolt to the head, they may have a concussion and it is important to take them to the emergency room right away. These symptoms may show up immediately after the injury or may start to appear hours or days after the event.

How can you reduce your risk of heart disease?

1. Know your blood pressure. High blood pressure has no symptoms—so it’s important to check your blood pressure regularly and report elevated readings to your health care team.
