Build strength where games are actually played — laterally.
Train the brakes, the push, and the body control that shows up!

A couple key benefits for athletes
• Improved change of direction & deceleration
Teaches athletes how to slow down, absorb force, and re-accelerate safely when cutting or shuffling.
• Stronger hips & knee control
Lateral resistance lights up the glutes and stabilizers that protect the knees during sport-specific movements

Tight upper back? Here’s how to do the Open Book Stretch to unlock your thoracic spine:

1️⃣ Lie on your side with knees stacked and bent at 90°.
2️⃣ Extend both arms straight in front of you.
3️⃣ Open your top arm across your body, rotating through your upper back.
4️⃣ Keep your knees down and follow your hand with your eyes.
5️⃣ Return slowly and repeat 8–10x each side.

Great for improving posture, shoulder mobility, and relieving tension from sitting all day.
📈 Add it to your warm-up or cool-down routine!

Resistance Training Should Be A Non-Negotiable Daily Habit
By Dr. John Jowers, Head Physical Therapist

Most of us are in the habit of brushing our teeth twice daily. The habit is so ingrained that it’s practically synonymous with going to bed. We wouldn’t dare go to sleep without brushing. Why don’t we think of exercise in a similar way?

Exercise, particularly resistance training, positively impacts every organ and system in the human body. The research has been there for decades. Yet despite this, most people fail to perform resistance training with often enough or consistently enough to bring about meaningful changes.

The disconnect isn’t a lack of evidence; it’s a lack of ritual. Trainers and PTs often prescribe exercise like a medication, complete with sets, reps, and frequencies, yet we fail to help patients embed it into their identity and daily rhythm. Brushing your teeth doesn’t require motivation; it requires routine.

Resistance training, when framed as a non-negotiable component of daily self-maintenance rather than a discretionary “workout,” becomes much more sustainable and, therefore, habitual. Even short, consistent amounts (5 to 15 minutes of loading major muscle groups) can produce meaningful adaptations in strength, metabolic health, tendon integrity, and joint resilience over time.

The challenge, then, is not convincing people that resistance training is beneficial. It’s helping them lower the barrier to entry. This may mean redefining ‘success’ away from “perfect programming” and toward adherence. A simple routine performed 4 days per week will outperform an idealized plan performed sporadically. Just as no one debates whether brushing for 30 seconds is “worth it,” we should normalize small, repeatable doses of strength training as essential maintenance for lifelong performance and health.

Schedule with one of our Doctors of Physical Therapy to help you develop a resistance training program or, better yet, to help you build that program into a habit that stays with you for life.

This Valentine’s Day, skip the box of chocolates (delicious… but temporary) and give a gift that truly lasts. A massage gift certificate is the ultimate expression of care—thoughtful, restorative, and unapologetically indulgent. Whether it’s for your partner, a dear friend, or someone who simply deserves a little extra TLC, nothing says “I love you” quite like deep relaxation, expert hands, and time set aside just for them. Because while chocolate is sweet, feeling better in your body is even sweeter.
