Sometimes comfort looks like a wagging tail or a gentle nuzzle.

On National Therapy Animal Day, we’re celebrating the incredible animals who bring peace, joy, and connection to our patients and families.

Stella, one of our Pet Companion volunteers, is a perfect example. Her visits create moments of calm, comfort, and even a few smiles when they’re needed most.

These PAW-some companions help gentle the journey in ways words cannot.

Volunteer Spotlight: Diane Burns

A handwritten note. A shared cup of tea. A quiet visit.

Diane Burns brings comfort in the moments that matter most. She supports our Bereavement team by helping with administrative work and writing every condolence card sent to families, making sure each one feels personal and meaningful.

You’ll also find her at Casey House during Teatime, helping create a warm and welcoming space, and occasionally visiting patients in their homes to offer companionship and care.

It’s volunteers like Diane who help gentle the journey for so many.

Care at the end of life should feel coordinated, not overwhelming.

That is why hospice is built around a team, all working together to support one person: the patient.

Surrounding them is a circle of care:
• A physician guiding the plan
• Nurses providing comfort and support
• Social workers helping families navigate decisions
• Chaplains offering spiritual care
• Hospice aides assisting with personal care

At Montgomery & Prince George’s Hospice, this team approach ensures no need goes unseen and no family feels alone.

Today is Healthcare Decisions Day.

It is a reminder that some of the most important conversations happen before a medical crisis.

At Montgomery & Prince George’s Hospice, we see how advance care planning brings clarity and comfort during serious illness, not just for patients, but for the families who love them.

When wishes are shared:
• Care reflects what matters most
• Stress and uncertainty are reduced
• Families feel supported, not overwhelmed

Our care teams are here to help guide these conversations with compassion and expertise.

Having the conversation is not about the end. It is about making sure your voice is heard every step of the way.

If you have not started, today is a meaningful place to begin.

⭐ Physician Spotlight: Dr. Grinberg ⭐

What does it mean to provide expert, compassionate care at the end of life?

For Dr. Grinberg, it starts with honesty, presence, and truly listening.

During her training, she saw how avoiding difficult conversations can lead to miscommunication and unnecessary suffering. That experience shaped her approach, grounded in clarity, empathy, and connection during life’s most complex moments.

“People often think hospice means giving up,” she shares. “In reality, we deeply value life. We want patients to live as fully and comfortably as possible, celebrating meaningful moments and spending more time with the people they love while managing symptoms.”

Dr. Grinberg approaches every patient with curiosity and humility, taking the time to understand who they are, not just their illness, but their values, relationships, fears, and hopes.

Hospice care is not just about managing symptoms. It is about dignity, comfort, and human connection.

At Montgomery & Prince George’s Hospice, this is what expert, compassionate care looks like.

Connect sooner. Live better.
