Smith Life communities home. In a variety of living options, they find independence, compassionate care and outstanding rehabilitation. Charitable donations support quality care, help us transform our care environment through new construction and renewal of existing buildings, and enhance our endowment for a secure future. Contributions help us bridge the gap between public reimbursements for Medicaid residents and the actual cost of care, and help fund growth in our programs and services.

Last week, Dr. Daniel Burow of Sailor Health led an engaging and thought-provoking program on cultivating mental wellness as we age. We explored essential pillars for maintaining emotional and cognitive health.

Key takeaways included:

âś…Emotional Maturity: Memory is constructed. While feelings are valid, they are not always factual. Personal growth requires psychological flexibility.

âś…Cognitive Maturity: Stay mentally active by consistently learning new things.

âś…Social Connection: Maintain friendships, seek a sense of belonging and give back to others.

âś…Physical Movement: Prioritize movement every day.

âś…Purpose and Meaning: Focus on gratitude and the fulfillment found in helping others.

March is National Social Work Month, and we couldn't be more proud to shine a spotlight on our incredible social work team.

Last night, we had the privilege of celebrating these amazing individuals, and social workers throughout our community, at a special event - and it was an evening well deserved.

Social workers show up with compassion, dedication and resilience to support the people who need it most. They navigate complex systems and advocate for individuals and families, building connections and offering support through difficult moments.

We are grateful to have such a passionate team at CESLC. Thank you to each of you!

Please join us in celebrating the 22 associates who earned Positive Approach to Care pins 1-4 - a significant milestone in CESLC's culture change journey. 👏

Developed by dementia care educator Teepa Snow, Positive Approach to Care is a person-centered, relationship-based model for supporting individuals with brain change and their care partners.

Achieving these pins required many hours of in-person and online training, skills demonstration, individualized coaching with PAC mentors and more. This achievement reflects our associates' commitment to further elevating the standard of care on campus.

Their investment is already making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Behind every high-performing senior care community is steady, accountable leadership. During Long-Term Care Administrator’s Week, we recognize the professionals who carry responsibility for quality, stability, and resident-centered care — often behind the scenes.

We are proud to celebrate Alejandro Small, executive director of Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, who brings his expertise to building meaningful relationships with our long-term care residents and their loved ones.

We also lift up Kathy Triggs, executive director of Landow House and Cohen-Rosen House, Scott Foster, executive director of Ring House and the members of our leadership team who hold licensed nursing home administrator credentials.

Chag Purim Sameach! Campus is filled with the joy of celebration and community.

At Ring House, residents enjoyed The Megillah Goes to Broadway! - a spirited and creative musical program led by Iris Music Project.

Residents at Hebrew Home of Greater Washington's Smith-Kogod Residence kicked off the celebrations over the weekend, with a lively performance by a large group of volunteers from the Kolot HaLev Choir. Many loved ones were able to share in the festivities, making them all the more meaningful. Today, Senior Rabbi and Director of Spiritual Life Rabbi Daniel Braune-Friedman led a parade around the east side of campus with visitors from Kehilat Pardes, singing songs and gifting hamantaschen.

Revitz House embraced the fun of the holiday with a festive costume party, complete with awards for Most Colorful, Most Festive and more.

From songs and storytelling to hamantaschen and shared traditions, Purim reminds us that the best celebrations are the ones shared together.

Residents at Hebrew Home of Greater Washington's Smith-Kogod Residence welcomed the Lunar New Year last week with an afternoon filled with culture, cuisine and beautiful music. The celebration featured a delicious Chinese-inspired menu prepared by our dining services team and a special performance by pianist Minji Nam, who played traditional Chinese and Korean classical selections.

While about 10% of the residents at Smith-Kogod Residence celebrate the Lunar New Year, like all of our holiday traditions, this was a joyful occasion embraced by the entire community. Every celebration is an opportunity to learn from and honor one another and come together as one vibrant community.
