Nearly 100 years ago, members of the community gathered to dedicate Hebrew Home for the Aged at 1125 Spring Road, NW, Washington, D.C. With room for 35 residents, the building was a bold step forward for the mission that began 15 years prior. It also laid the cornerstone for what Hebrew Home of Greater Washington has become today.

As we look back on this historic photo, we can't help but reflect on how far we've come. Now, as Charles E. Smith Life Communities, we serve nearly 1,200 older adults on our 38-acre North Bethesda campus.

Could the community members who gathered that day have known that they set in motion a mission of care, dignity and empathy that would still guide us a century later?

As we mark this 100-year milestone, we honor our legacy and look forward with hope as we imagine what will become in the next 100 years.
