Secure Waste wants to bring attention to the fact that Childhood Stroke Awareness Day is celebrated every year on the first Saturday of May (May 2, 2026), aiming to shine a light on the critical topic of pediatric strokes, which can affect babies, infants, and teenagers. This special day encourages everyone to wear purple. It helps us educate caregivers about the early warning signs, ultimately leading to quicker diagnoses and heartfelt support for families facing these challenges.
Did you know that pediatric strokes occur in about 1 in every 3,000 to 4,000 children? Many of these young survivors may face lasting cognitive or motor difficulties, making our mission all the more vital. The month of May is often celebrated as Pediatric Stroke Awareness Month, where we "Paint May Purple" to amplify our message.
Recognizing symptoms such as sudden weakness, speech issues, or facial drooping is crucial. Organizations like CHASA offer valuable resources, scholarships, and information, including details on perinatal strokes that occur around birth.
Founded in 2002 by the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, this awareness day is an important opportunity to educate the public and medical professionals, ensuring that childhood strokes receive the attention they deserve.
