Core strength is more than just abs! It involves the belly, back, hips, and pelvis stabilizing and controlling our spine and pelvis. A strong core is foundational to our strength, balance, and coordination.
If you notice your child slouching, leaning, or using their arms or furniture for support, they may be struggling with a weak core. Core weakness can also cause clumsiness, poor endurance during physical activity, difficulties climbing on playground equipment, trouble sitting still for long periods of time, or struggles with fine motor skills like writing and using eating utensils.
If you think this may apply to your child, try out some of these activities or consider having them evaluated by a physical therapist or occupational therapist!
