For decades, women in midlife have been told the same thing:
“Your labs are normal.”
“It’s just stress.”
“It’s part of getting older.”
But the reality is that many of the symptoms women experience in their late 30s and 40s are related to the beginning of perimenopause that is a hormonal transition that can last 8–10 years before menopause.
I recently had the opportunity to discuss this on Good Day Washington on WUSA9, highlighting something that still surprises many women:
Hormonal changes affect far more than just hot flashes.
They influence brain chemistry, sleep, metabolism, mood, and cognitive function. Which is why so many high-performing women suddenly find themselves experiencing:
• Brain fog
• Sleep disruption
• Anxiety or irritability
• Weight changes
• Loss of motivation or focus
Too often these symptoms are minimized or misunderstood, leaving women to believe they simply need to “push through.”
But we now have stronger research, evolving guidelines, and more personalized treatment options than ever before.
The real shift happening in medicine today is that women are beginning to ask better questions—and expect better answers.
Midlife should not be a time when women feel dismissed by the healthcare system.
It should be a time when they feel informed, supported, and empowered to advocate for their health.
Grateful to for helping bring this conversation to a broader audience.
