Dr. Wesley Wang, PT, DPT, Sports Physical Therapy I am a physical therapist in Rockville, MD, with experience treating various orthopedic conditions, specializing in sports rehabilitation.

My name is Dr.Wesley Wang, PT, DPT. I am a physical therapist with experience treating a wide range of orthopedic conditions. My focus is on sports rehabilitation, specializing in ACL recovery. My treatment philosophies centers around strengthening, movement and patient education. I strive to empower my patients to give them the tools necessary to get back to their respective activities. I currently work at Healthy Baller, an athletic training facility which offers physical therapy, located in Rockville, MD. Our facility offers a private physical therapy office, a 50 yard turf field and extensive weight room, allowing me to challenge my athletes to ensure they are ready to return to their respective sports. โšฝ๏ธThis athlete has agreed to let me document her rehab journey and in this clip we are now 8.5 weeks post op following ACL reconstruction, LET and meniscus repair.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธIn the mid to late stages of ACL rehab the athletes are getting closer to returning to play.

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธThis phase of ACL rehab should really start pushing athletes with strength, speed and force production.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธThey must be challenged in the weight room and gradually exposed to sport specific movements. In my opinion, this is what a comprehensive ACL rehab program should look like.

๐Ÿค”There are several ACL grafts out there with patella, hamstring, quad, and cadaver all being popular. The BEAR is also commonly done in certain areas. Iโ€™ve also heard of the ITB being used in the younger population. Iโ€™m sure there are more out there.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธWith that said, what is your favorite graft and why?

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธWhile there is no perfect graft, for me, itโ€™s still the patella tendon graft. If we are careful with loading, they typically do pretty well and is a strong graft choice.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธIn my opinion, two big ones are students should be allowed to choose where they go in clinicals and better education on specifics topics.

๐Ÿ˜คIโ€™ve heard so many students complain about their schools not allowing them to pursue clinicals.

๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธWhy!? In my opinion, if a student has a setting or CI they want to learn from, the school should do their best to accommodate.

๐Ÿ˜ญImagine paying over $10,000 to go to a clinical for 12 weeks where you learn nothing from a CI that doesnโ€™t even care.

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธAdditionally, there should be improved education particularly around important rehab concepts. Ones that I mentioned was exercises progressions, regression, and progressive overload which are pivotal for outpatient rehab.

๐Ÿ˜ญ๐๐“ ๐ฌ๐œ๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ฅ ๐๐ž๐›๐ญ - worth it or not?๐Ÿ˜ญ

๐Ÿ˜ฉI hear many PTs saying PT school wasnโ€™t worth it. If you went through it, was the tuition worth it?

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธI posted about my opinion on what I believe students should look for when choosing a PT school. Again, I think the tuition is a the top priority as long itโ€™s an accredited program.

๐Ÿ’ต Debt is a very real thing that I donโ€™t think everyone takes into consideration. I finished with $105,000.

๐Ÿค”For me, the answer is absolutely worth it. I took a chance 7.5 years ago to work in a cash environment and it changed my life.

โšฝ๏ธ I specialize in ACLs, work with my ideal demographic of athletes, treat the way I believe is best and hour long sessions.

๐Ÿง Iโ€™ve also been privileged to help grow a small business as I was the 2nd PT hired and we will be up to 12 next month and in 4 locations later this year.

๐Ÿคฏ Lastly, Iโ€™ve been blessed with the opportunity to start two online ACL businesses, my ACL Mastermind Group and the ACL Recovery Playbook. Iโ€™ve also had the privilege of developing and teaching an in person ACL course.

๐Ÿ‘‰I donโ€™t post a lot of my personal life on social media but this is something that is part of who I am today.

๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ผ My grandparents and parents immigrated here from Taiwan to create a better life for the next generation.

๐ŸคฏThey werenโ€™t college educated, didnโ€™t speak english and flew across the world. This is something I didnโ€™t really appreciate or understand until I got older.

๐Ÿค”My grandfather opened a restaurant when they got here and my parents worked there 6-7 days a week for 10-12 hours. Our second restaurant was open 365 days a year.

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธAs Iโ€™ve gotten older, Iโ€™ve learned to really appreciate and understand what they did for us. Both my kidsโ€™ middle names are from their grandparents because I want them to remember where we came from.

๐ŸŽ‰ My mom retired yesterday after 48 years of working in the restaurant business!

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธShe has supported me in every capacity and I am forever grateful. I told her I was switching careers to physical therapy and had unwavering support.

๐Ÿ˜ญShe has worked tirelessly for all these years so we could have a better life. She didnโ€™t want me to work the same hours as her. She wanted me to be able to spend time with my family and kids.

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธIโ€™ll never fully know the full extent of everything she did for me. I do know she showed me what itโ€™s like to be a loving sacrificial parent and for that Iโ€™m grateful. I am so lucky to have the best mom.

๐ŸฅณIโ€™m thankful my mom is finally able to rest. She is able to spend more time with her grandkids, go on trips with us and just relax!

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธWe know that around 25-35% of ACL patients suffer a second ACL tear. Thatโ€™s an EXTREMELY high number and the question we need to ask ourselves is why?

๐Ÿง In my opinion, a large portion of second ACL tears is under preparing patients for sports. This includes rushing back to play and improper return to sport testing.

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธIsolated quad and hamstring strength using equipment is a must. The biodex is still the gold standard for testing. Force plate testing also provides important data. Use EQUIPMENT for testing and not our hands/eyes.

๐Ÿ˜กItโ€™s crazy to me that people STILL go back to sports before 9 months. In my opinion, the majority of athletes need closer to a year to pass all return to sport testing. Too many athletes get cleared based on terrible testing which puts them at risk to re-injury.
