Child abuse doesn't just affect childhood. Research shows it's linked to serious physical health problems well into adulthood, but here's what gives us hope: the evidence-based treatment we provide at The Tree House works. According to the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), 75% of children who had PTSD when they began evidence-based treatment no longer had PTSD by their last follow-up.

Early, research-backed intervention changes everything. As we get ready for April — Child Abuse Prevention Month — we're sharing what it really takes to protect and heal the children in our community. Stay with us. 💙

As we continue our mission to provide hope and healing in Montgomery County, we've made the difficult decision to place Tour De Cookie on an indefinite pause. We're so grateful for every rider, volunteer, and supporter who made Tour De Cookie special over the years.
Please stay connected by subscribing to our newsletter — you'll be the first to hear about what's coming next! https://treehousemd.org/contact-us/

For more than 10 years, we've loved hosting Tour De Cookie -- an opportunity for cyclists and child advocates to rally around The Tree House and the services we provide to young victims of abuse. This year, we're placing a pause on Tour De Cookie so we can focus on some other events that we hope will give everyone, cyclists included, a way to participate and invest in our work! But this isn't goodbye forever -- make sure you're subscribed to our newsletter to be the first to learn about both our new events, and future Tour De Cookies! https://treehousemd.org/contact-us/

Only 26% of child sexual abuse survivors disclose their abuse to a trusted adult, according to the national prevention organization Darkness To Light.
That means nearly 3 in 4 children are carrying this weight in silence — because of fear, shame, self-blame, or simply not knowing that what happened to them was wrong. This is exactly why The Tree House exists. When survivors heal, cycles break. When communities are educated, children feel safer. When trusted adults know how to listen, more children find the courage to speak.
You can be part of that work. đź’™Visit https://treehousemd.org/ to give today.

65% of our young clients in 2025 were 12 years old or younger. This statistic reminds us why our offices and treatment plans must be designed specifically for children.

From play therapy for our youngest clients to the specialized H.O.P.E. Program for children ages 7-14, every service we provide is tailored to where a child is developmentally, emotionally, and in their healing journey. We believe childhood should be about growth, curiosity, and safety. When trauma interrupts that, we're here to help children find their way back. This Random Acts of Kindness Week (February 14-20), we're celebrating the everyday heroes who show up for Montgomery County's children. From the foster parent who packs an extra encouraging note, to the teacher who notices when something's wrong, to the neighbor who drops off a meal during a difficult period—small acts create ripples of healing that extend far beyond what we can measure.

Thank you to everyone who plants seeds of kindness in the lives of children. You make our community safer, stronger, and more hopeful.

đź’™ How will you show kindness this week?

Today we celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science—and the incredible women in STEM who make our mission possible. Our Medical Director, Dr. Evelyn Shukat, and Nurse Andrea Coleman, BSN, RN, bring both scientific expertise and profound compassion to every child we serve. Their work ensures that medical examinations are conducted with trauma-informed care that prioritizes comfort, dignity, and healing. To all the women and girls pursuing science: your work has the power to change lives. Thank you for showing us what's possible. 👩‍⚕️🔬
