This week, the National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health participated in the DoD Response to Mass Casualties Symposium hosted by the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. During this two-day event, subject matter experts came together to facilitate discussions and reach consensus that will inform doctrine, clinical practice guidelines, and curriculum for mass casualty education and training, for both classroom and operational environments. Special shout out to our Education and Training Director, Dr. Larissa Unruh, for co-chairing the event, Program Coordinator, Eileen Morocho, for presenting on a MCI Inventory across DoD Curricula and to Professor and Vice Chair, Dr. Melissa Givens, for organizing this event.

We had a great time with the Pacific Disaster Center - PDC Global at their Maui headquarters where we learned about the great work they do in disaster risk reduction across the globe. Thank you Dr. Erin Hughey, PhD and Dr. Joseph Green for meeting with us and demoing DisasterAWARE, PDC’s multi-hazard early warning, hazard monitoring, and risk intelligence platform. It was an awesome tool to learn about and we look forward to future collaboration.
