🩺 Vaishnavi Burra ‘27 no longer has to imagine herself working in a hospital emergency room. Over the summer, Burra conducted research and logged clinical hours alongside physicians and scientists at one of the nation’s top pediatric hospitals through a new partnership between William & Mary and Children’s National Research Institute. 🔬

💼 The 10-week summer internship program gave the cohort a glimpse into medical and health professions, attracting students with a range of interests.⚕️Burra worked in the epilepsy department, while Aafreen Ali ‘26 trained an artificial intelligence model to help diagnose 🦠 sepsis, Julianne Abenjoa ‘26 researched rare brain tumors 🧠 and Surya Narayanan ‘26 studied the cardiac effects of Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy and Dysferlinopathy. 🫀

Last year, Landon beat cancer 💪 This year, he's practicing his sideline reporter skills alongside NBC4's JP Finlay at the Washington Commanders Crucial Catch game for cancer awareness.

He got to spend pre-game on the field alongside JP, learning the ropes of sports reporting, getting a walk through of their equipment, and even starring in his own sports news segment.

We can't wait to see what he does next! 💛

We’re ready for Halloween — all thanks to Spirit Halloween 🎃 Their team brought fun characters, games, crafts, and best of all, costumes! Thank you for helping our patients get ready for Halloween. 🧡

After being diagnosed with a rare soft tissue cancer, JaRee' underwent 10 months of chemo treatments and radiation before finally being told he was in remission. He then joined the Washington Commanders for their Crucial Catch game night and celebrated his victory against cancer by ringing the bell on the field. 🙌🔔

Ringing the bell is an incredible memory for any of our kids who have beaten cancer, but doing it in front of 67,000 fans takes it to a whole other level 💛

💛 Madison’s favorite color was yellow — a bright reflection of her spirit and joy. During her battle with colorectal cancer, she loved receiving LEGO sets during hospital stays, sparking a family tradition that continues today.

Her brother, Teddy, honors Madison in everything he does — from wearing yellow catching pads and a ribbon on his glove, to painting her initials and angel wings on his hockey helmet. Each year, he leads a LEGO drive in her memory, collecting sets for pediatric cancer patients and their siblings, spreading the same comfort and joy Madison once felt.

Through every brick and every act of kindness, Teddy is keeping Madison’s light shining. 💛

The U.S. Air Force and Space Force Cheer Teams brought major energy to our hospital this month! From storytime and coloring in our library to dance battles, and even a few cheer lessons, they filled the halls with smiles and spirit. Thank you for lifting up our patients (and our staff!) with so much joy and encouragement! 💙
