Earlier this month, more than 2,500 allergists and immunologists gathered in Orlando for the 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting of the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI). It’s one of the biggest events of the year for our specialty, bringing together experts to share the latest research, treatments, and guidelines.

Dr. Sokol, who serves on the medical board of FAACT (Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Connection Team) and chaired this year’s ACAAI program planning, joins the FAACT podcast to share meeting highlights and key takeaways—especially in the area of food allergy.

🚨For all our Food Allergy families… you might have seen this recent bold headline about Xolair and its superiority to oral immunotherapy. 😱

We want you to know that this is a confusing headline and the coverage has been misleading. ‼️

The OIT dosing on this study involved 3 food allergens and had an incredibly rapid up dose schedule. This was an aggressive protocol!!

In addition, this study did not address costs of treatment or quality of life considerations of the individual patients and their families. 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

We know that Xolair is a fantastic new tool that we can use for the management of food allergy. 🎉

However, the decision to choose Xolair or OIT (or any other food allergy management option) is incredibly nuanced and the individual patient and their circumstances certainly must be taken into consideration! 🥜🥛🥚🍳🍤
