Ever wonder how physicians like to stay active? Dr. Michael Chen, interventional cardiologist with Adventist HealthCare Cardiac Associates, enjoys running – and this year, he once again placed in the National Senior Games! Dr. Chen competed in the 1 mile, 5K, and 10K road races, earning one gold and two silver medals in his age group.

The best part? He competed alongside his mom, who participated in the 5K power walk and 1500-meter power walk, taking home bronze medals in her age group in both events!

Congratulations to Dr. Chen and his mom on their incredible accomplishments! What a wonderful way to stay healthy and spend quality time being active with family.

It was a thrilling morning as our tower helipad opened for service, allowing us to begin extending God's care from our rooftop. The helipad went into service at 8 a.m., and received its first helicopter two hours later. Thank you to the skilled team at PHI Air Medical Manassas - AirCare 1 for landing our inaugural flight and helping our teams test the helipad. This marks the first operational milestone for our tower and the beginning of its service to our community. 🚁

In a small ceremony this weekend, the hospital dedicated our tower’s rooftop helipad. Seven stories up under beautiful summer skies, we asked for blessings on the pilots, care teams and patients who this week will begin using this new gateway to life-saving care.

Our helipad was dedicated in memory of Connor Gamma, a young man who dreamed of being a pilot and whose passion for taking to the sky will endure atop our tower. We’re grateful for his family’s generosity and legacy of service to the Emergency Department at Shady Grove Medical Center.

White Oak Medical Center was presented with the prestigious Medicus Integra© Award by representatives from the Coalition for Physician & APP Well-Being on Thursday, July 24. We hosted the closing ceremony for the 2025 Stepping Stones Program at Adventist HealthCare—a wonderful opportunity for pre-med and medical students to gain hands-on clinical experience within our hospitals.

The ceremony featured thoughtful remarks from Dan Cochran, President of Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center, and guest speaker Dr. Andrew Baum, Medical Director of Emergency Medicine. Students also shared meaningful reflections on their time shadowing physicians, nurses, and healthcare teams throughout our system.

Congratulations to all of our 2025 participants! Your professionalism and passion for medicine truly stood out, and we’re honored to have supported you on this journey.
