Your upper canine tooth ( #6) is connected to more than just your smile. In holistic dentistry, this tooth is associated with the liver and gallbladder meridians.

The gallbladder plays an important role in digestion, especially breaking down fats and supporting bile flow. Because of this energetic connection, imbalances in the gallbladder meridian may sometimes show up in the mouth around the upper canine.

Some people with issues in this area may also experience temple headaches, eye tension, TMJ discomfort, or gallbladder stress.

Your mouth can reflect what is happening throughout the body. Looking at dental health through a holistic perspective allows us to see connections between teeth and overall wellness.

If you have had recurring problems with your upper canine, it may be worth exploring the body and mouth connection.

Better sleep starts with better breathing. The Hushd Pro Avera is a custom oral sleep appliance designed to help reduce snoring and support patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea.

By gently guiding the lower jaw forward during sleep, it helps keep the airway open for improved airflow throughout the night.

Each appliance is custom made for comfort, helping patients sleep more soundly and wake up feeling more rested and energized.

So what is the DNA appliance?

It’s a custom, removable device designed to gently expand the upper jaw and support better airway function over time. Unlike traditional orthodontics that focus only on straightening teeth, this approach looks at the bigger picture breathing, sleep, and overall oral development.

In this video, our patient shares their experience and how treatment has impacted their daily life.

If you’ve been struggling with mouth breathing, narrow arches, or sleep concerns, this could be a conversation worth having.

Most parents think baby teeth are temporary but their impact is long term.

Primary teeth play an essential role in facial growth, airway development, and the formation of a healthy oral microbiome. Because enamel is thinner in children, cavities can progress quickly, which makes early and proactive care so important.

The habits built in early childhood do more than protect little smiles today. They influence overall health for years to come.

Prevention is not optional. It is foundational. 🦷✨

Why They’re Harder on Teeth Than Fresh Fruit

When fruit is dehydrated, the water is removed and the sugar becomes concentrated.

The sticky texture keeps it pressed against enamel much longer than fresh fruit, increasing acid exposure and cavity risk.

Here are some tips to protect your teeth if you love dried fruit:

✔ Rinse with water immediately after eating
Helps wash away sugars and loosen sticky residue.

✔ Wait 30 minutes before brushing
Acid temporarily softens enamel…brushing too soon can cause erosion.

✔ Floss the same day
Especially after sticky snacks that wedge into molars.

✔ Pair with protein or fat
Eat dried fruit with nuts or cheese to reduce the sugar spike and help neutralize acids.

✔ Avoid grazing
Frequent snacking keeps your mouth in an acidic state. Keep it to mealtimes when possible.

✔ Choose unsweetened versions
Skip added sugars whenever possible.

Seltzer is often seen as a healthier alternative to soda, but it is not completely neutral for your teeth. Carbonation creates carbonic acid, which lowers the pH in your mouth and can soften enamel if exposure is frequent, especially if you are sipping on it throughout the day.

Saliva plays a huge role in protecting your teeth by neutralizing acids and helping deliver minerals back into enamel. When the mouth stays acidic too often, saliva does not get the chance to fully do its job.

Plain seltzer is generally low risk for most people, while flavored versions can be more acidic, especially if they contain citric acid. Compared to soda, energy drinks, or drinking lemon water all day, seltzer is still a better option, but moderation and timing matter.
If you drink seltzer, it is best to have it with meals, avoid constant sipping, rinse with plain water after, and wait a bit before brushing.

If you already deal with sensitivity, enamel wear, dry mouth, reflux, or mouth breathing, it is smart to be more mindful with acidic drinks. Teeth need more than just low sugar. They need minerals, balance, and time to recover between acid exposures.

Most whitening strips contain polyethylene (plastic), polyvinylpyrrolidone (synthetic polymer), and carbomer: chemicals that sit against your teeth and gums for hours. These strips are abrasive, drying, and can damage enamel over time, leaving microscopic scratches that trap stains and increase sensitivity.

Zoom whitening is done in-office with professional-grade materials, protective barriers for your gums, and controlled application. It strengthens enamel while it whitens. No plastics, no guessing, no damage.

Whitening should brighten your smile AND protect your long-term oral health.
