What you practice is what you get. Different types of mindfulness practices have different effects. Gratitude practices are not the best practice for dealing with stress, according to a recent study, however they are good for improving relationships. One of the best practices for relieving stress is breath-focused, interoceptive awareness, basically following the breath into the body. What type of practice works best for you?
