☀️ Sensory play, smiles, and sibling support! 💜🧼

During a recent home-based occupational therapy session, this trio of HP friends explored water and shaving cream as part of a sensory-rich activity that supports fine motor development, tactile processing, and social engagement. 🙌

One of the beautiful things about in-home therapy is the ability to involve siblings—not just as bystanders, but as partners in play. Including brothers and sisters in therapy sessions can support modeling, shared regulation, and joyful connection in the child’s natural environment. 👫👬

We love watching these young learners explore, get messy, and grow—together! 💦🧽

We love giving our HP friends meaningful “jobs” during therapy—not just because they love to help, but because these activities build incredible sensorimotor skills!

✅ Heavy Work: Carrying baskets, pushing wheelbarrows, or hauling feed gives deep pressure input to joints and muscles—this “heavy work” helps improve regulation, attention, strength and body coordination.
✅ Bilateral Coordination: Tasks like holding and pouring, pulling weeds, or sweeping require both sides of the body to work together, supporting motor planning and handwriting readiness.
✅ Sensory Adaptation: Working in new textures, temperatures, and environments helps kids learn to process and respond to sensory input more flexibly—building resilience and confidence.

And the best part? These jobs don’t feel like therapy—they’re meaningful, purposeful, and fun! 💛

📸 Swipe through to see our incredible friends in action—building skills that last a lifetime, one “job” at a time.

What a journey it's been!!! We’re thrilled to announce that our new covered arena is finally finished! From vision to reality, this project wouldn't have been possible without the exceptional craftsmanship of Howard Brothers Barn Building, and the expertly designed footing surface from FootingFirst, LLC with the help of Trent Enterprises for the grading work. We're excited to use this dedicated space for keeping our equines fit and healthy, as well as for increasing access to equine movment for our therapy clients. Thank you for making our dream a reality here in Rockwood,TN!

🌀 Understanding Sensory Seeking Behavior 🌀

Some children, like this HP friend, are naturally drawn to movement, pressure, sound, or tactile input. These children may be described as sensory seekers—their nervous systems require more intense or frequent input in order to feel organized and alert.

You might notice:

Frequent jumping, spinning, or crashing into furniture

Chewing on clothing or objects

Constant need to touch people or textures

Difficulty sitting still or calming down without movement

These behaviors are not necessarily defiant or disruptive—they may be a child’s way of self-regulating.

Supporting sensory seekers often involves offering structured opportunities for deep pressure, movement, and active play. Understanding the "why" behind these behaviors is the first step toward helping children find more adaptive ways to meet their sensory needs.

Sensory integration-informed occupational therapy can help identify strategies that support regulation, participation, and learning.

Hello summer, hello next installment of our Connection Course Series! This July, we are excited to offer the 4th course in our Connection Course Series: The Sensory Connection!

This two-day online course applies sensory integration theory, reviews neuroanatomy, and covers horse selection and use of the environment to address sensory processing challenges. Participants will gain an understanding of treatment for children with sensory processing challenges using equine movement as a treatment tool and will engage in hands-on activities and clinical reasoning as part of the course to ensure learning is carried over to the therapists’ home practice.

Registration for this course is open on our NEW website. Visit the link in our bio or check the comments down below 👇💻📚

✨ Mom's Say It Best ✨

We are so grateful that one of our amazing MOMMA's took the time to share about her families journey through Speech Apraxia and their time with the AMAZING Miss Janna. (check it out)

Did you know...
Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder — your child knows what they want to say, but their brain has trouble coordinating the muscle movements needed for speech. 💬💔

Here are some signs of CAS to look out for:
👶 Difficulty imitating sounds or words
🔁 Inconsistent speech errors (they say it differently every time)
🧠 Groping or struggle when trying to form words
🕒 Delayed first words or very limited vocabulary
🔇 Speech that's hard for others (even family!) to understand
