Richard Stephen Renshaw

Richard Stephen Renshaw 60, of Hardy VA, passed away on September 10,2025. He was born in Jacksonville FL on August 1,1965. He was a graduate of Hixson High School, Hixson TN. He attended the University of Tennessee where he became a huge fan of the Tennessee Volunteers. Since his father was in the military, he was able to live in other states which included SC, Hawaii, MS and TN.

Preceding Richard in death were his grandmother Ruth Salaman, his father George Renshaw, his father-in-law Maurice Everette and mother-in-law Lois Everette.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Mary of 37 yrs., his fur baby Bandit and his mother Ruthann Salaman Renshaw, his three sisters (he was the only boy): Cheryl (Allan) Beaver of FL, Debbie (Ed) Duckett of NM, and Gigi (Larry) Brock of FL. He had several nieces and nephews: Thomas (Courtney) Beaver of FL, Caitlin Beaver of FL, Zach (Fiona) Annett of FL, Stephen Duckett of NM, Jessica (Chuck) Price of FL and Hannah (Cole) Stade of NC and their daughter Emilia. He also had a brother-in-law Steve (Connie) Everett of VA.

Richard worked as a manager of Aladdins Castle Game Room in Burlington NC where he met his wife Mary through friends that worked at the game room. He loved working on any type of game machines. Later he decided to become an Electrician and was at this profession for over 30 yrs., half of which was at Shively Electric when they moved from NC to VA. He took great pride in his work and was extremely knowledgeable in this field. He would clearly tell you that he loved working in industrial facilities and that he "didn't do residential".

Richard got his love for cooking from his family, especially his father, and became an excellent cook. On his first date with Mary he made dinner for her and has been cooking for her ever since as she didn't like nor knew how to herself. He loved the country and enjoyed being outside. They both enjoyed working in their yard together. He also loved watching college football live or on TV. When Mary graduated from Elon University, he looked forward to going to their homecoming game. A highlight in recent years was when he would go to a Tennessee Volunteer game with his whole family who were all dressed in orange. He loved animals but his pride and joy was to be with his poodle Bandit. His enjoyment was to sit everyday on the front porch watching Bandit chase after trucks and watching the sunshine over the mountains. He enjoyed woodworking and became very good at it, selling items he made at craft shows and gifting as presents.

Some of the places he enjoyed going were Busch Gardens in VA every year with Mary for their anniversary, Cocoa Beach FL with his entire family for a week vacation and Charleston SC.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the compassion and kindness that was given to Richard at the Carilion Clinic Roanoke Memorial Hospital ICU Trauma Unit.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Conner-Bowman Funeral Home to help with funeral and final expenses. Donations may be made either by cash, check, debit or credit card. Please feel free to send your donation to our address or you can call it in to the funeral home (540)334-5151. There is also a link listed below for Richard Renshaw Memorial Fund, and everything can be made on-line.

A celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Andrew Luther Dudley

Andrew Luther Dudley, of Leatherwood, Virginia, passed away listening to Johnny Cash, with his family by his side in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 6th. He was 82 years old. “Andy,” as he was better known by family and friends, was born alongside his twin sister Audrey on September 21, 1942, to Emma Hilda Cundiff and Stuart Jesse Dudley in Franklin County, Virginia. He grew up on a to***co farm in Union Hall and graduated from Franklin County High School in 1960. After graduation, Andy proudly served in the Army National Guard. Andy began his career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, testing concrete during the construction of the Smith Mountain Lake Dam. He worked for Williams Ready Mix Co. and later deciding to establish his own concrete construction business, Dudley Construction. In the late 1970s, Andy opened two hardware and auto supply stores: Western Auto in Bassett and Laurel Park Hardware & Auto. His true passion; however, emerged in the 1990s after building his own home in Leatherwood. The experience inspired him to found Andy Dudley Cedar Homes, which went on to build many custom homes still enjoyed by families today. Andy was married three times, first to Mary D. Dudley and later to Lynn R. Mason.

He is survived by his third wife, Joyce R. Marts. Andy had a deep love for country and bluegrass music. He played several instruments, including the acoustic guitar, autoharp, and steel guitar. He spent many joyful hours in his camper along the Bluegrass music’s Crooked Road Trail thru Floyd County and festivals in Galax. Also, an avid outdoorsman, Andy enjoyed hunting both small and large game, but especially loved bird hunting (quail and grouse) and training his beloved English Setters and Pointers. Andy is survived by his wife, Joyce; his children, Catherine Lynn Dudley Tatum and Andrew Lee Dudley (by his first wife Mary); four grandchildren—Racheal, Jon, Henry, and Adam; and two great-grandchildren, Jiwoo and Xander. He is also survived by his brothers, Carl and Kenneth; his sisters, Audrey, Janice, Norene; and his half-sister, Darla. Preceded in death by his sister Louise.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the generous and kind caregivers who supported Andy in the final months of his life: Mary Hairston, Debbie Tholance, and Shelia Reynolds. The Carilion Hospice team also provided invaluable compassion and care, with special thanks to Heather, Cece, Stephany, Alice, and Heidi for their dedication and support during Andy’s final journey.

Please consider contribution in Andrew Dudley’s name to the Franklin County Historical Society, PO Box 905, Rocky Mount, VA 24151: referencing Twin Chimney’s or to Mt. Ivy Christian Church, 5120 Scruggs Rd., Moneta, VA 24121.

A celebration of his life along with the scattering of his remains will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, September 12, 2025 at the Gwin Dudley home site known locally as the Twin Chimney's, Twin Chimney's Drive, Wirtz, VA 24184 with Steve Pasley, Minister officiating.

Christopher James Portelli "Chris"

With heavy hearts, we remember our cherished son, Christopher James Portelli, who passed away peacefully on Monday morning at just 33 years old. Chris met his illness with extraordinary courage and resilience, never allowing it to dim the love, warmth, and joy he so effortlessly shared. More than a son, he was a devoted father to two beautiful young children who were the very heart of his world. His love for them knew no bound, and the laughter, memories, and wisdom he gave them will endure for a lifetime

Though his time with us was far too brief, Chris left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His generous spirit, gentle nature, and deep love for his family leave a legacy that time and distance can never erase. We will hold his memory close, celebrate the happiness he brought into our lives, and honor the love he gave so freely.

Rest in peace, dear Chris. You are profoundly missed, eternally loved, and will remain in our heart forever. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Gemma Portelli; David & Brenda Huffman.

Surviving are his parents, Martin and Lottie Portelli; children, Zoey and Aaron Portelli; sister, Jodie Portelli; brother, Ashley Green; sister, Tara Attard; Aunt, Cora Camilleri and her children, Yani and Kaya Camilleri; Aunt, Lori Whitlow (Glenwood) and children, Kelsey Jamison, Taylor Poulin, Tanner Dillon and Bryce Whitlow. He is also survived by other relatives and friends, including Rebecca Channing; his Spokane, WA friends; “his person” Maryia Miller; and best friends, Jake “Rusty” Reola and Kevin Cross.
