Roger Dale Wertz (Our "Diddy"), age 70, of Callaway, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025. Roger was born June 27, 1955 to the late Willie F and Doris Ann Housman Wertz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Ann Wertz; brothers Paul W. Wertz and John K. Wertz; sister Sandra Jo Wertz; and his fur buddy Toby "Little Man". Roger retired from Valcom after many years of service. He was a true outdoorsman. From hunting and fishing to camping, he loved every aspect of the outdoors.

Surviving are his daughters Christie Ann Wertz, Renee Wertz Kincer (Stacey); grandchildren Taylor B. Helms (Steven), Brooklyn M. Morris (Christian, Atlanta L. Kincer, Sydney R. Clements; great grandchildren Reagan Hudson, Oaklyn Hudson and great grandchild to be Miley; nieces and nephews David Mullins, John Wertz, Mandy Jo Wertz and April Williamson; his special buddies Levi and Brodie; and his fur-baby Miss Kitty.

Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Home 11:00 am Friday with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson Family Cemetery, Floyd at 1:00 pm. His family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am Friday at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 62 Virginia Market Place Dr., Rocky Mount, VA 24151.

Albert Colley Johnson age 78 of Moneta passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born on June 15, 1947 a son of the late Claude and Grace Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Manning Johnson; his children, Wesley Johnson (Kim) and Teresa Davis; his grandchildren, Dougie Davis, Hayley Tyree (Jared), Levi Johnson and A.J. Johnson; his great-grandson, Colman Tyree; sister, Shelby J. Brooks (Carlton).

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday, October 31, 2025 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Steve Pasley, Minister officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends on Thursday, October 30th from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home.

David Marshall Cooper

“Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.” 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

David Marshal Cooper, 85, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father and “Grinchy” to his granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents William Marshal “Buster” & Beulah Kingery Cooper, oldest brother Daniel of Florida and younger brother Donny of Rocky Mount. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Barbara; daughter Marcy (Chris); and son Aaron (Cathy); granddaughters Corinne & Kaija. Also survived by sister Debbie (Randy); brother Dale (Sandra); sister-in-law Ella; and many precious nieces and nephews plus grandnephews & grandnieces.

David loved softball and played for over 20 years with his church and for various teams. He was a man who liked to work with his hands and created many beautiful pieces of woodworking, walking sticks and decorative boxes. He even crafted wooden toys for his granddaughters. Later in life he took up sketching, drawing & painting.

Many thanks to South Roanoke Nursing home for their excellent care during his rehab and much gratitude to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Palliative Care for their kind and compassionate service.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:30 AM Friday, October 31, 2025 at Bethany Church of the Brethren with Pastor Jessi Slusher presiding with a meal to follow. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to Bethany Church of the Brethren or a charity of your choice.

Sarah Hartman Janney, age 75, of Boones Mill, Virginia exchanged her earthly body for heaven on October 25, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ronnie Janney, her father and mother Oscar and Adrian Hartman, and several siblings.

Sarah is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Rhonda and Kenneth McFalls; grandson and wife Sammy and Amanda McFalls; granddaughter Katie McFalls; great-grandchildren Addy and Simon McFalls. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters and in-law, Larry Hartman, Betty Durham, Mary and Barry Walker, Ronnie and Kathy Hartman, Rachel Hartman, and Ellen Janney. She had many nieces and nephews.

Sarah met her husband Ronnie at the age of 6 on their first day of school. They married in 1970 and together built a life rooted in Jesus Christ. Their 54-year marriage is a testimony to their love for each other and the Lord and left an example for their descendants to follow.

Sarah worked for the nursing department at Radford University for 51 years. She was instrumental in the lives of many nursing students and worked tirelessly to help in admissions, scholarships, and many other ways to pave the way for their success. Her most important job was caring for her family. She spent most of her life caring for her late husband and gave him round the clock care during the last year of his life. Her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were recipients of her love and care, and her legacy will live on in them.

She was a member of Clearbrook Baptist Church. As a former member of Boones Mill Baptist Church she served in many ways, including teaching Sunday School, children’s clubs, and being a deacon’s wife. She lived a life defined by a deep love for her savior, Jesus Christ.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Clearbrook Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan W. Ratliff and Pastor James H. Steele officiating. The Janney family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Clearbrook Baptist Church, 5219 Singing Hills Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24014.

Charlotte Ann Agee Davis age 85 of Callaway went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2025. She was born February 21, 1940, the daughter of the late Lewis Melvin Agee and Minnie Lee Guilliams Agee. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Shirley Agee Dillon, and Betty Walters; brother Richard Agee; and a great-great grandchild, Cheza Holley. She retired from Lane Furniture Company with 10 years of service.

Surviving is her brother Wilton Agee (Faye); her son Anthony (Tony) Davis (Rhonda) of Callaway; sister-in-law Ann Agee of Glade Hill; granddaughters Skylar Goad, Payton Goad; grandsons Timothy Holley; Jonathan Holley; several beloved nieces and nephews; special friends Roger and Irla Whitlow; special neighbors Stacy and Crystal Cundiff; special care-givers Kelly, Mary, Eve and Lori.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday at Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
