During a difficult hospital stay, one family found that kind of care in Crystal Macklin, RN. After introducing herself, Crystal took the time to sit down, listen without judgment, and truly understand their experience. She asked thoughtful questions, reflected back what she heard, and used that understanding to guide the care she provided.

Throughout their stay, Crystal continued to check in, respect their needs, and offer something that stood out—genuine, compassionate care rooted in listening and trust.

For this family, Crystal’s presence brought comfort and reassurance during a challenging time.

Please join us in congratulating Crystal Macklin, RN, on being recognized with a DAISY Award for her commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care. 💙🌼

Due to a sustained decrease in flu and respiratory illness across the region, UNC Health Nash has lifted visitor restrictions that have been in place since January 5, 2026. Effective immediately, standard visitation guidelines have resumed.

Children 12 and under may now visit hospital inpatients when accompanied by an adult and may not enter isolation rooms. The UNC Health Nash Emergency Department has returned to allowing two visitors per patient at a time; however, visitation may be limited based on patient condition and Emergency Department activity.

If any additional changes occur, updates will be shared through official UNC Health Nash communication channels.

Sometimes, a single image says it all.

This photo brings together two incredible transport teams—air and ground, from different hospitals—working side by side with one shared purpose: delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

We’re proud of the continued growth of our Specialty Care Transport team at UNC Health Nash and the strong partnership we share with UNC Carolina Air Care and UNC Rex Critical Care Transport. Together, we’re expanding access, strengthening care across our region, and supporting patients when it matters most.

Most patients will never see the laboratory—but every diagnosis, every decision, and every step forward in care depends on it.

Here at UNC Health Nash, Clinical Manager Maurice Thompson and his phlebotomy team show how every role plays a vital part in patient care. Through teamwork, shared ownership, and a deep focus on the patient, even behind-the-scenes work helps shape the full care experience.

"We take our responsibility seriously because our piece of the puzzle allows physicians to complete theirs. It’s all about the total patient experience. We provide our piece so the full picture can come together for the patient."

On Wednesday, April 1st, we gathered around our flagpole for the Pause to Give Life event, joined by HonorBridge to stand alongside transplant recipients and the loved ones of organ, eye, and tissue donors. Together, we paused—not just to remember, but to reflect on the lives forever changed through the gift of donation.

Tawanda Harris shared how the kidney she received gave her more than time—it gave her the chance to continue raising her children, caring for her family, and serving her community. Her gratitude extended not only to her donor, but to the family who carries his selfless act of love alongside his memory every day.

We were also honored by Carroll Langdon and her daughter, who shared the story of Travis Langdon—a husband, father of two brave daughters, and a hero. Through their strength his legacy continues, offering hope to others and meaning that reaches far beyond loss.

There were tears, but they were not without purpose. There was grief, but it was met with gratitude. There was a shared understanding that even in life’s hardest moments, something extraordinary can still be given. As the Donate Life flag was raised, it stood not just as a symbol, but as a promise—to honor those who gave, to support those who received, and to remember the stories that connect them.

Across North Carolina, more than five million people have made the decision to become donors. If you feel inspired to make the same impact, you can register online or say “yes” at the DMV.

We are deeply grateful to the donor families, recipients, and team members who joined us. Their stories will continue to inspire, reminding us that one decision can change countless lives—and that legacy lives on in the most meaningful way.

Leadership looks different for everyone—and that was exactly the point.

At our recent Women’s Leadership Panel, leaders from across the UNC Health Nash organization shared honest reflections on their career journeys, leadership styles, and the lessons that have shaped them along the way.

The conversation explored how women navigate leadership in evolving spaces, while also highlighting something bigger: the importance of collaboration, self-awareness, and supporting one another to grow.

From learning how to reset and recharge, to building confidence over time, each panelist offered insights that resonated far beyond the room.

Because strong leadership isn’t about one path—it’s about showing up with purpose, lifting others along the way, and creating a workplace where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you to panelists Dorsey Tobias, April Lynch, MSN, RN, Meredith Denton, MD, Lourdes Concepcion Benitez, MD, and panel guide Courtney Ceaser, MSN, RN—and to all who joined—for bringing open perspectives and meaningful experience to the conversation. Events like these reflect what makes the UNC Health Nash organization strong: a shared commitment to supporting one another, growing together, and continuously improving the care we provide our community.
