Sydney is a fresh 2nd year medical student at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and she’ll be spending June and part of July at the office to learn more about family medicine! I love teaching, so we’re having a great start already!

This is why I generally recommend methods of natural family planning (if this is the form of birth control that patients choose after our conversations) that are customized for the individual.

Some methods of natural family planning make assumptions about menstrual length, like the Standard Days Method. This leaves room for an 8-25% failure rate with typical use.

More personalized methods, like the Natural Cycles app (recently FDA approved or symptothetmal method may be more effective.

The Natural Cycles app has a success rate of 93% according to their study of over 15,000 women for FDA approval.

As always, this is a discussion I recommend having with your doctor, as there may be reasons this is not the best option for your body.
